The Pit

Template:Multiplayer Map Infobox Template:Article Quote The Pit[1] is a Halo 3 multiplayer map.
It was revealed in a Bungie Humpday Challenge, and footage of it was confirmed to have been shown in one of the Halo 3 video documentaries. The level is aptly named because it "has a lot of geometry to jump around", and features both a symmetrical layout and weapons placement. The map is divided into three sections, each with a powerful asset: a section with the Overshield, another with the Active Camouflage, and yet another with the M41 Rocket Launcher. Two Sniper Rifles are also present on the map, although strangely, they are not listed as one of the major control factors.
It has been stated by Bungie that controlling the Rocket Launcher and one of the two powerups confers a significant strategic advantage.
It bears a small resemblance to Turf, a map in Halo 2.
Bungie originally called the map "Gym Class" before the game was finished.
Trivia
- The map has several cardboard brutes with fake energy shields that pop up when someone approaches. This can be used to find people from the sound.
- The announcer over the intercom might be referencing a similar line from the Frank Zappa song Joe's Garage, or more likely (due to a similar reference in the Halo 2 Multiplayer level Terminal) it is referencing a memorable line from the 1980 movie Airplane.
- Outside of the map's boundaries on the tarmac, 7 Pelicans can be seen
- The warthogs outside the map can be flipped, blown up and driven (only after it respawns again). The player will still be killed by the guardians (while in the warthogs).
- The warheads, pallets and other forge items outside the map can be deleted.
- When outside the map, a player will be killed by the guardians within 5 seconds.
- You can push a teleporter through the window of the third story of the main base on each side (may take a little time it get the hang of it though).
