The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/G, also known as Grenadier, is a variant of the MJOLNIR Mark IV Powered Assault Armor.

Overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

This variant was a test bed for incorporating energy shielding technology with the MJOLNIR program. The helmet features an up-armored configuration with heads-up software that adjusts to combat situations that improves the user's performance and suitability. It is equipped with blast-guard pauldrons.[1] The Grenadier helmet can support the addition of AN/PZY-6011Y TYPHON and AN/PZY-6011Y TYPHON Command Network Modules, and a Type E3 UA module. The Grenadier chestpiece is additionally fitted with a VAUNTLOCK power pack - which is capable of powering the suit's shields should the suit's fusion reactor fail.

Development history[edit]

The Mark IV [G] prototype[Note 1] was introduced just over a decade after Mjolnir entered service.[1] Intended to provide additional protection from concussive force, the Mark IV [G] helmet is an up-armored version of the first Mark IV prototypes,[1] with an expensive lightweight composite shell.[2] The [G] variant served as the basis for all subsequent supplemental armor development programs; it is compatible with later models such as the Mark V. The [G] variant served as a test bed for incorporating energy shielding technology with the MJOLNIR program,[3] although these tests were ultimately unsuccessful;[4] energy shielding had previously been tested as of 2531.[5][Note 2]

After the first wave of GEN2 systems, based on requests of veteran Spartan-II and Spartan-III operatives, the UNSC Ordnance Commission considered reassessing a refined and upgraded version of the Grenadier suit. This led to the creation of the INDOMITABLE-class Mjolnir.[6] As late as 2560, GEN1 Grenadier could still be requisitioned by Spartans, upgraded to be roughly equivalent to GEN3.[7]

Usage[edit]

This variant saw limited use as other variants filled the same role instead. Jorge-052 wore a variant of the Grenadier helmet with the UA (Up-Armored) attachment, as well as the knee guards, left shoulder, and UA chest piece.[1]

In-game information[edit]

Halo: Reach[edit]

"The Mk. IV [G] variant is an up-armored prototype based on the basic Mk. IV helmet."

All Grenadier armor types in the Armory are unlockable in the game's purchase system via the use of cR. In Halo: The Master Chief Collection, the Grenadier set is attainable in the Season 1: Noble progression system. Due to its adoption from the customized armor of Jorge-052, the Grenadier [UA] chest plate has his Spartan tag "052" written on the collar.

All UEG and UNSC rules of engagement are suspended for duration of containment efforts. Infected personnel are to be killed on sight and their remains cremated, if possible. Spartans are expressively prohibited from attempting treatment of infected individuals. Additionally, all personnel must wear appropriate protective gear and follow decontamination protocols when entering or exiting designated quarantine zones. Any breach of biological containment will result in severe consequences under the UCMJ. Legendary Purchase the "Transgressor" Bundle from the Shop for 2,200 cR

Production notes[edit]

The Grenadier helmet resembles an early design of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Mark IV created during the production of Halo Wars. It also resembles the Mark IV armor on the cover of Halo: The Cole Protocol.

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ Although the Halo: Reach Armory consistently describes the [G] variant itself as a prototype, Halo: The Essential Visual Guide makes no mention of this, instead stating that GRENADIER is derived from the first Mark IV helmet prototypes. While the book's description may stem from a misinterpretation of the original source, both are represented in this article since they do not contradict one another.
  2. ^ "Energy shielding was a key feature of Mark V, although other Spartan squads had field-tested prototypes of this technology as early as 2531."
  3. ^ UA/Type JOR in Season 01: Heroes of Reach.
