MJOLNIR Mark IV

Deimos[Note 1] is a suite of armor designed for the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor platform.[1]

Overview[edit]

Deimos armor is a variant of MJOLNIR armor used during the early years of the Human-Covenant War, as part of what was in 2535 retroactively designated "Mark IV". It is capable of being used in space operations.[2]

The suit shares several key design traits with parallel Mark IV platforms like Project COBALT alongside future MJOLNIR suits like MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Mark VI. In particular, the DEIMOS chestplate and pauldrons bear great similarity to the Mark VI GEN3 variant fielded from 2559 onwards.[3]

Usage[edit]

Deimos entered service for the Mark IV MJOLNIR platform by early 2526, and was worn by John-117 during his mission to the Corbulo Academy of Military Science on Circinius IV in April of that year.[4] Throughout the early years of the war, John and his fellow SPARTAN-IIs frequently swapped between a number of Mark IV suits including Deimos, MJOLNIR (B), and the COBALT prototype armors, among others.

However, Deimos remained a fixture of his various MJOLNIR suits, with him using it up until at least Operation: WARM BLANKET in 2544. In this mission, all of the members of Blue Team wore variants upon the Deimos platform, though sported minor incremental variations including alternate colors, helmets, and supplemental armor pieces.[2]

Production notes[edit]

The Deimos armor was first designed by the Japanese animation studio Casio Entertainment for the Halo Legends episode The Package, and was the second Mark IV MJOLNIR variant ever visualized (following on from Blur Studio's take on Red Team in Halo Wars the same year). It has sporadically appeared since, making a notable live-action appearance in the webseries Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, where a suit was produced by Legacy Effects to be worn by Master Chief actor Daniel Cudmore.[5]

The armor was first depicted in a Halo game in the final update for Halo Infinite in 2025. In Infinite, the armor was introduced as a non-canonical Fractures suit, with its name and lore seemingly-themed around a reference to the DOOM franchise (including the name, a reference to the Martian moon that forms the setting of the first Doom game).

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ The name "DEIMOS" comes the armor's inclusion in Operation Infinite for Halo Infinite. However, as-presented in-game the armor is a Fracture set, giving the name an unclear canonical backing. While the contents of the main body of this article are fully-canon information, the name is used here until such a time as a more suitable alternative is provided by Halo Studios.
