An event in Halo Infinite was a special update with a limited-time battle pass. Later changing to become known as operations, these became Halo Infinite's primary battle pass system during Content Update 29 with the release of Spirit of Fire.[1]

Overview[edit]

Heroes of Reach to Infection[edit]

Events in Halo Infinite were originally centered around a theme, with each season hosting multiple events during their runs. The majority of events had event passes, which were free battle passes that were active alongside any other owned battle passes for a limited time. Each event challenge that was completed would advance the battle pass by one full level. Most events would possess a 10 tier unlock path, with Fractures averaging 20 to 30 tiers. As there were a limited number of event-specific challenges available while the event was active, completing an entire Fractures-themed battle pass required participating in multiple events over the course of a season. During the event, the Shop also featured several bundles that were thematically related.

Season 05: Reckoning[edit]

Events were replaced by operations with Season 05: Reckoning. While the majority of events that were available through Season 01: Heroes of Reach to Season 04: Infection featured 10 tier passes, operations feature 20 tiers, with a premium upgrade slot akin to a mainline battle pass. The base premium upgrade costs 500 Halo Credits, rewards the player with relevant premium items, and unlocks the fourth challenge slot for faster progression, while the premium pass bundle costs 2,000 Halo Credits and unlocks all 20 tiers immediately, including premium items.

Each operation lasts anywhere from four to six weeks, and once the four to six week period ends, the operation is made available in the Shop for purchase. Operation passes were featured alongside the Reckoning battle pass, but they must be equipped in place of it; as such, players cannot make progress on both passes at the same time.

Spirit of Fire to Brute Force[edit]

The release of Spirit of Fire would see a downscaling in Infinite's content cycle, with mainline 50 to 100 tier battle passes being entirely replaced by 20 tier Operation passes. Functionally identical, Halo Infinite would carry this model forward for the year of 2024, with Banished Honor seeing yet another reduction in content as previously unlockable charms, emblems, and backdrops were almost entirely replaced by Spartan Points for the then-new Exchange.

Frontlines to Infinite[edit]

The release of Frontlines saw another shift in how operations occurred in Infinite's ecosystem. While the Operations from Combined Arms to Brute Force were 20 tiers, all operations beginning each new content update starting with Frontlines would return to the 50 tier standard set by Season 05: Reckoning, with the following two operations of the update remaining at the standard 20 tiers.

Additionally, operation passes were able to expire as of Frontlines. If the player didn't purchase the pass prior to the next operation beginning, they would have had to have waited approximately three months for the premium items within the pass to become available within the Shop. Free items within the 50 tier pass will likewise become purchasable through the Exchange.

The Infinite Operation would see a return to the 100 tier standard not seen since Season 04: Infection two years earlier, and would ultimately be Halo Infinite's final major operation and content update as Halo Studios focused their efforts on Halo: Campaign Evolved and other unannounced projects.
