Alarms are blaring. Avery Johnson paces in places with his arms behind his back while rows of marines pass by him. Scene cuts to black, then to a R'sisho-pattern Tick latches on to an airlock of UNSC Pillar of Autumn. Scene cuts to black, then to two marines and Johnson fire their MA5B assault rifles from a corner.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): You've heard the story.
SKT-9 Bumblebee Lima Foxtrot Alpha 43 escapes from the Autumn. It approaches Installation 04's massive superstructure.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): Halo.
Three D77 Pelicans speed across the sea as they approach the Silent Cartographer island. John-117 is standing in the troop bay.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): The Chief.
John-117 fires his assault rifle at enemies off-screen near a Bumblebee's airlock.
Near the ring's many phase pulse generators, John-117 fires his assault rifle while an explosion engulfs him.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): Stuff of legends.
Aboard the Truth and Reconciliation, a Mgalekgolo fires its assault cannon. Two Mgalekgolo charge towards John-117 in the hangar bay. The scene switches to slow motion as one prepares to melees the Spartan. A Spirit approaches from behind.
John-117 extends his hand to Captain Jacob Keyes and helps him up. Chief places his hand on a Covenant console, and Cortana materializes on the console.
John-117 boards a Longsword's cockpit. The Longsword escapes from the Autumn's crash site.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): But that's not the story I'm telling today.
Sergeant Johnson turns to face the camera in the Autumn's armory.
Scene cuts to the unidentified Covenant agricultural ship in the war-torn space above Promise.
- ONE YEAR BEFORE THE RING
- Avery Johnson (narrator): This one you haven't heard.
A Spirit approaches the agricultural ship. Inside the agricultural ship, the Spirit descends. A T'vaoan and three Unggoy stand near its landing station.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): Op started simple enough.
The Covenant approaches the Spirit as it comes to a stop.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): Drop in, grab the goods.
One of the Unggoy presses a button on a holographic display.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): Get out before anyone noticed.
One of the Spirit's bay doors open, revealing an empty seat.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): Well, guess what?
Another bay door open, revealing the Master Chief with his BR55 battle rifle raised. Cut to black.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): They noticed.
Scene opens with the Chief's point of view during a battle inside the habitat dome; he throws a frag grenade at a group of Unggoy, then fires a burst of his battle rifle at enemy above. He turns left and sprints forward, then uses smart-linked scope while firing at a T'vaoan.
Scene cuts to the Chief's point of view during a battle in the armory aboard the ship; he fires his Kewu R'shi'k-pattern plasma rifle at a Kig-Yar, then turns right to assist marines with a Sangheili.
Scene cuts to the Chief's point of view during a battle inside the habitat dome; he fires his fuel rod gun at a Wraith, which explodes and sends its Sangheili operator into the air.
Scene cuts to Sergeant Johnson exiting the Spirit dropship. He is carrying a large weapon case. He sets it down on the ground. The Chief turns around to face him. Johnson stands over the emptied case, now with an M99 Stanchion in his hands. Johnson turns to the Chief with a toothy grin.
- Avery Johnson: Now you ready to get to it?
Scene cuts to a lavish chamber aboard the ship; two Sangheili are standing in the center in an energy sword duel, with Unggoy observing. Johnson is revealed to be standing on a platform above with his M99 Stanchion. He fires.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): You serve long enough, you learn to read a battlefield.
Scene cuts to the Chief's point of view during a battle inside the same chamber; the Spartan sprints into the fray while Johnson's weapon kills a Sangheili. The Chief fires his fuel rod gun at a Ghost, destroying it, then switches to an energy sword to face the second Sangheili. The Chief swings his sword.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): This place?
Scene cuts to an establishing shot of the habitat dome; it is a massive chamber with Covenant structures dotted across the terrain.
Scene cuts to the Chief's point of view during a battle inside the habitat dome; he sprints forward with a needle rifle in his hands while Johnson and a marine are fighting a group of Covenant forces that were just deployed from a Spirit.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): More of a freak show.
The Chief fires his needle rifle at an enemy; the supercombine kills it.
Scene cuts to a large chamber with bulbous pods; Johnson and the Master Chief approach its center. The pods are revealed to be holding Sangheili inside.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): And trust me, I know freaky.
Scene cuts to the Minister of Harmony emerging from the shadows and revealing himself. The San'Shyuum is accompanied by Sacristan warriors.
- Minister of Harmony: Have you enjoyed your stay so far, Demon?
Johnson and the Chief have their weapons raised.
- Avery Johnson: Sorry to interrupt, but we're on the clock.
Johnson fires his weapon. A device on the chest of a Jiralhanae emits a bright red light, sending sparks throughout the Jiralhanae's body. He goes berserk, taking down his allies and roars.
Scene cuts to a Jiralhanae Berserker charging into battle in the habitat dome. He melees and kills a Kig-Yar ally, then charges forward.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): The thing with simple jobs is, they always get complicated.
Scene cuts to a large corridor inside the ship; Johnson and the Chief are on a platform moving under a series of bridges.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): Plans change.
Unggoy fire the weapons from the bridge above and begin to drop down to the platform. Scene cuts to the Chief's point of view; he fires his Spiker at the Unggoy.
Scene cuts to two Mgalekgolo charging across a large chamber.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): Odds get worse.
Scene cuts to the Chief's point of view; he fires his M7 SMG at one Mgalekgolo, which is killed by Johnson's weapon, then he swaps to his M41 SPNKr and fires a rocket at the second Mgalekgolo.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): My advice?
Scene cuts to Johnson bumping his fist into the Chief's shoulder, then walks past the Spartan deeper into a hallway inside the vessel.
- Avery Johnson (narrator): Bring a Spartan.
- THREE ALL-NEW MISSIONS
Scene cuts to a montage of the Chief piloting a Seraph in space: the Seraph flies past UNSC wreckage towards the agricultural ship. The Seraphs is then flying along the ship's hull, firing its weapons at weapon emplacements on its surface. His Seraph then destroys another spacecraft.
- THE LEGENDARY CAMPAIGN EVOLVED
Scene cuts to a montage of the main campaign: Echo 419 approaching the Truth and Reconciliation. The Chief and "Foehammer" inside the Pelican cockpit. The Chief turns around in a swamp and meets 343 Guilty Spark. The Chief fires assault rifle from the troop bay of a Pelican.
Scene cuts to the Chief fighting alongside Johnson on the Covenant agricultural ship; he melees an Unggoy, then throws a live plasma grenade at another Unggoy.
Scene cuts to the Chief aboard the Truth and Reconciliation. A Mgalekgolo approaches from behind, and he turns to fire his assault rifle at the threat.
Scene cuts to the Chief and Cortana on the Autumn's bridge. Aggressor Sentinels appear at the windows, and fire their weapons at the Chief, who takes cover behind the main display screen.
Scene cuts to the Chief driving an M12 Warthog in the Autumn in the midst of a battle between Covenant and Sentinels.
Scene cuts to Johnson and the Chief walking down a hallway aboard the agricultural ship.
- Avery Johnson: Chief, you ever get tired of being the strong, almost-silent type?
The Chief stops, prompting Johnson to stop as well.
