January 24
- UNSC "smart" artificial intelligence Iona begins service.[1]
February
February 19
- As part of Project CHRYSANTHEMUM, the SPARTAN-IIIs of Gamma Company begin their week-long augmentation process on the UNSC Hopeful in Sector K-009 following its departure from Reach.[2][3]
February 27
- The Hopeful returns to Reach following the Spartans' augmentation procedures.[4]
Before May
- Before May, the CAS-class assault carrier Enduring Conviction, led by Let 'Volir, faces against the UNSC. During the battle, the Enduring Conviction performed impressive evasive maneuvers.[5]
May
May 8
- Dr. Catherine Halsey undergoes the Hemley & Aubourn Behavior Analysis; the results make ONI increasingly wary about her reported unreliability.[6]
Before July
- The Battle of Legopo takes place. During the battle, UNSC Marines of the Hungry Buzzards steal a Covenant Spirit.[7]
July
Before July 12th
- The Covenant glass Promise. The Marines of Tiger Company are captured and forced to fight Jiralhanae Berserkers as part of the Minister of Harmony's experiments aboard his ship, the Triumph of Tolerance.[8]
July 12th
- All other Covenant ships depart Promise, leaving only the Triumph of Tolerance in its orbit. The UNSC detect its prescence and see an opportunity to gather data on the Covenant's theoretical homeworld.[7]
July 13th
- John-117 trains on Reach for Operation: METEORITE, a mission to retrieve data from the kelguid of the Triumph of Tolerance. Despite James Ackerson's insistence, John chooses Avery Johnson as his partner on Libra Team over the members of the Hungry Buzzards.[7]
After July 13th
- Operation: METEORITE takes place. After infiltrating the Triumph using the Hungry Buzzards' Spirit, Libra Team encounters the Minister of Harmony and his experiments before rescuing the surviving members of Tiger Company, led by the ODST Lieutenant Williams, who initially butts heads with John due to grudges between the ODSTs and Spartans. After Libra Team retrieves data on High Charity, Williams sacrifices herself to help the UNSC Burden of Proof destroy the Triumph, however the Minister of Harmony escapes.[9][8][10]

November 24
- Mark V[B], the initial production model of the Mark V MJOLNIR armor,[11] enters service.[12]
December
December 5
- Covenant activity was witnessed at Lethbridge Industrial's Lethbridge Combat Fields on Concord.[13]
December 6
- At 0720, as part of Operation: GYPSUM UNSC forces, including Sergeant Sigrid Eklund and M9 Wolverines, clear out the Caravelle province on Concord.[13]
- Sigrid Eklund reports to Commander Renna regarding the events of Operation: GYPSUM indicating its success.[13]
- On Concord; Operation: SHARP ANGLE is noted as confirmed, and Operation: OFFSET EYE is noted as pending.[13]
December 12
- Operation: OFFSET EYE is accomplished by NOBLE Team on Corcord's Hinterlands region. Rosenda-A344 is transferred to other clandestine operations, while the rest of NOBLE Team is tranferred to Fumirole.
December 22
- The Car & Pilot Magazine releases its December 2551 Edition. This includes a review of the new 2553 edition of the Civilian "Hog".[14]
Unknown
- Pawel Czernek and John Tippett enter active service with the UNSC Marine Corps.
- Concord is attacked by the Covenant; the colony survives largely intact. The Venator MJOLNIR [GEN1] variant gains prominence in the attack.[15][16]
- Gray Team is deployed on a mission against a Covenant facility within humanity's former territory.[17]
- The Battle of Meridian ends. Meridian is glassed and Chalybs Defense Solutions facilities on the moon are abandoned. The Covenant discovers a Luminary on Meridian that leads to Earth.[18]
- The UNSC Iroquois begins construction.[19]
- Veta Lopis' mother dies.[20]
- The M11 combat knife is manufactured by the Watershed Division.[21]
- Operation: DEVIL FREEDOM occurs sometime this year.[22]
