Transcript[edit]
Vacation Destination[edit]
John-117 and Avery Johnson emerge from the corridors of the spacecraft Triumph of Tolerance into a natural landscape, with sunlight beaming down on them. It is revealed to be a habitat dome aboard the ship, simulating the impression of an exterior landscape.
- Johnson: Out of the frying pan and into, well, whatever the hell this place is cookin' with.
- John-117: UNSC signal is stronger here.
- Johnson: Then it looks like we're on the right track. Let's move out, I've got your back, Chief.
{Gameplay}
- Harmony (on intercom): [In Sangheili] Ekumpekee. Dapempupu.
- Johnson: Well that doesn't look friendly.
The player heads down a path to the left, where they stumble upon a pack of Jiralhanae holding a marine prisoner. After killing the Brutes, the player continues on until the sound of human gunfire can be heard in the distance, which is soon revealed to be more marine prisoners fighting the Covenant.
- Johnson: Chief, up ahead!
- Johnson: I'll be damned, Chief! We got survivors!
The player helps the marines fend off their assailants.
{Cutscene}
John-117 and Johnson link up with the survivors—four marines and an ODST, Lieutenant Williams.
- Williams: Thanks, Sergeant Major, we owe you one. Didn't think we'd ever see any of our own again.
She offers her hand.
- Johnson: I'm Lieutenant Williams. Tiger Company.
- Johnson: From the 92nd Shock Troops Battalion?
- Williams: One and the same. Honored you've heard of us, Sergeant Major. We certainly know who you are.
- Johnson: The honor's mine, LT. Glad we could help.
Williams looks behind Johnson to the Master Chief, and then to her fireteam, all of whom are staring at the SPARTAN-II.
- Williams: Robins! Take the team and give me a perimeter check.
The four marines move out.
- Johnson: You don't seem as impressed as the rest of your crew.
- Williams: No, Sergeant Major, I'm not. It takes more than fancy armor and a good PR campaign to impress me. That said, you do have our thanks. It's been... rough out here to say the least. If it's all the same to you, I'd like to fast-forward the pleasantries and skip to the part where we get the hell off this ship.
- Johnson: Sounds good. Williams, we'll get you out of this foxhole, but we've still got a stop to make before we're done.
- Williams: That works for us. The more losses we can hand these bastards the better.
Williams walks away, and Johnson moves to follow her, tapping John-117 on the shoulder as he does.
- Johnson: Chief, let's get to the bridge.
- John-117: Affirmative. Exit should be this way.
{Gameplay}
The player follows Johnson and Williams into a Covenant building stocked with the Marines' gear.
- Williams: If we're gonna get outta this damn dome, we're gonna have to go through its main facility. Unfortunately, that also includes the Brute kennels. They keep 'em caged and angry... expect a fight.
- Johnson: You have any idea what the Covvies have going on here, Lieutenant?
- Williams: They're hunting us. They captured our company before glassing Promise, rounded us up and brought us here. They started releasing us into the dome, usually a few at a time. Three-minute head start.
- Williams: So... what the hall are you doing on this ship? Since that "stop you needed to make" obviously wasn't to rescue me and mine.
The player heads down the next path.
- Williams: Careful, Sergeant Major! This looks like a trap.
The player engages.
- Williams: I warned you, Spartan!
- Harmony (on intercom): [In Sangheili] Sirupu. Kushpmiee.
- Williams: That damn eye. More Covenant are on the way!
The player defeats the enemies.
- Williams: Even PR machines have some use after all. Thanks for the assist.
- Harmony (on intercom): Alas, I have my great work to complete. Know that I am the axis upon which your destiny turns.
- Harmony (on intercom): [In Sangheili] Usump. Kureku. Pmeimepee.
- Williams: Looks like something else caught their eye. Let's hustle.
The three fight through more Covenant until coming to an overlook, observing a bridge with a large building on the far side.
- Williams: That's the place. They're on lockdown after we broke out.
- Harmony (on intercom): Ah, there you are. Observe, Demon: your struggle is ornamental. Succeed or fail, it matters not.
- Harmony (on intercom): [In Sangheili] Ra'ishum. Rimpuem.
The three reach the building after fighting through waves of Covenant soldiers.
- Johnson: Chief! Give me cover and I'll crack the locks.
- Williams: We're exposed out here!
- Johnson: You want fast or clean, Lieutenant?
Spirit drophsips begin deploying waves of reinforcements while Johnson hacks the door. Eventually it unlocks, allowing the humans inside the building. Covenant blood and corpses can be seen scattered about.
- Johnson: We're in! Let's get inside, double time!
- Williams: They didn't even clean up the mess we left on the way out. Sloppy.
The player begins traversing the halls of the structure until coming across a detention area with prison cells holding captive marines.
Prisoner's Dilemma[edit]
- Williams: What the hell? We need to rescue those marines!
The trio fight through the detention block, picking up marine stragglers along the way.
- Johnson: I see that look! You're wondering if you've got the guts to fight after what you've been through. You think those Covenant bastards broke you? Hell no! You're UNSC Marines! You've ensured the worst they've got, and you're still breathing.
- Williams: Not bad, Spartan. I'm almost starting to believe the propaganda.
- Johnson: Alright, Chief. What's next?
- John-117: We make them pay.
The humans head back through the corridors, fighting Covenant and emerging into an armory loaded with both Covenant and human weapons.
- Williams: Keep an eye out for extra supplies. Gear adrift's a gift.
After finishing the last of the guards.
- Williams: Get strapped, we'll show these bastards the price for picking a fight with the UNSC!
The group enters another detention block.
- Williams: You never get used to the smell.
- Johnson: What smell?
- Williams: You can't be seri— you know what, just nevermind.
The party enters an observation deck overlooking a storage area with hundreds of pods, presumably containing the Minister of Harmony's experiment subjects inside.
- Williams: My god. Are they packed for... shipping?
- Johnson: All I see are more reasons to put a stop to whatever it is they're doing here.
The group exit the building and head back outside.
- Johnson: Chief! I have eyes on a Covenant HVT!
- Williams (dialogue): That one butchered our marines!
- Williams (subtitles): That's the butcher of our marines!
- Harmony (on intercom): [In Sangheili] Pmichup. Kupim. Zus.
- Harmony (on intercom): Defiance is a melody I have heard before. It ends, as all things do—in silence.
- Johnson: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The player finishes killing the enemies in the area and continues forward, eventually emerging to find a gravity bridge that leads over the water.
- Williams: That panel should activate the bridge.
The player steps onto the gravity bridge.
- Harmony (on intercom): [In Sangheili] Rimpuem. Rimspmerp. Ruwpemezu.
- Williams: We have incoming! Clear the Covenant so we can move on!
- Harmony (on intercom): Your defiance is a stain upon the Path... yet even blemishes serve to reveal perfection.
The player dispatches several enemies, before being directed to use another switch to activate a second gravity bridge.
- Johnson: Care to do the honors, Chief?
- Williams: You think they made Spartans to push buttons, Sergeant Major?
- Johnson: Lieutenant, I know Spartans and Helljumpers have a history. But no matter what's happened in the past, we're on the same side in this war.
- Williams: Look, Marines like us used to be the heart and soul of the UNSC, until we started playing second-fiddle to soldiers that were built instead of born.
- John-117: We can't change where we come from, only what we become.
- Williams: Fair enough.
The group emerges into an open space in front of the Brute barracks.
- Johnson: Chief, take the flank.
- Williams: Did you see this coming, bastards?
- Williams: Tiger Company, converge on our position pronto!
All of the enemies are dispatched.
- Johnson: Chief, you ever get tired of being the strong, almost-silent type?
- John-117: No.
Hunters Hunted[edit]
The player comes across the bridge over to the Brute barracks. They fight through enemies into the structure, where they are faced with multiple waves of inbound Covenant soldiers. Eventually, a high-ranking Sangheili enters the room.
- Johnson: HVT!
- Williams: Bring him down!
After all enemies are killed, the player interacts with a console, deactivating the intercom.
- Harmony (on intercom): You believe victory is yours? Each breath you steal from my servants—
- Williams: Ah, sweet silence.
- Johnson: Rally at the exit marines!
{Cinematic}
The human group exit the building back into the open space.
- Williams: So, what's the plan, Chief?
- John-117: We get the data and exfiltrate.
- Johnson: Lieutenant, we're about to head straight into the middle of the hive to get that honey we came for. The Chief and I will handle that side of things.
- Williams: We're combat-ready, we're not about to sit this out!
- Johnson: "Sit it out" my armor-plated ass. Lieutenant, I can assure you there will be no sitting. Chief and I will secure the bridge. We need your crew to head straight to the nearest hangar bay and secure our ride outta here.
- Williams: Now that's more like it. Give 'em hell, Sergeant Major. We'll keep the engine running.
The two groups head in different directions and the mission ends.
