The 92nd Shock Troops Battalion were a battalion of the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers active during the Human-Covenant War. They fought in the defence of the colony world Promise in 2551, during which many members of the battalion were captured by the Covenant and held in captivity aboard the research ship Triumph of Tolerance.[2]
Aboard the Triumph, members of the 92nd were periodically released into the ship's habitat dome to be used as live prey for the testing of biochemically-altered Jiralhanae, under the supervision of the Minister of Penitent Correction and Minister of Harmony.[3] Eventually a small unit of marines—Tiger Company, led by First Lieutenant[Note 1] Williams—were able to break out of their cells and into the habitat dome, where they began to be hunted down by the Jiralhanae. At this time they were saved from death by Libra Team (comprised of Spartan John-117 and Sergeant Major Avery Johnson), who had independently boarded the Triumph for a mission of their own, unaware that the ship hosted human captives. The band of humans then staged a prison break for the remaining marines still in captivity and proceeded to escape the ship. Williams and her troops were sent to secure a dropship in the ship's hangar bay while Libra Team continued to the ship's bridge to retrieve a starholo per their original objective.[2]
While Libra completed their assignment, Williams and her crew were successful in securing transport off the ship, repelling numerous Covenant counterattacks in the process. When the two groups reunited, Johnson called for a fire support mission from Libra's assigned warship, though the group realised that someone would need to stay behind to ensure that Triumph's energy shielding was disabled in time. Williams volunteered herself and her troops while Libra Team evacuated.[4]
In the ensuing space battle, John-117 and Johnson provided cover for a captured Spirit dropship transporting the wounded survivors of Tiger Company to safety. Late in the battle, a Halberd-class light destroyer, UNSC Burden of Proof, was able to destroy Triumph of Tolerance, killing any remaining members of the 92nd still aboard.[4]

- ^ In Halo: Campaign Evolved, Williams is only ever referred to as either simply "Lieutenant" or "LT". Williams is an ODST, meaning that her rank should be derived from the UNICOM rank structure, which per Halo: Official Spartan Field Manual does not have a rank of Lieutenant, which is instead a Navy rank. The UNICOM structure does, however, have the ranks of Second and First Lieutenant, the latter of which is noted in the OSFM to be the position of a Company executive officer. In Campaign Evolved Williams is shown to be in command of Tiger Company, making it likely she held the rank of First Lieutenant.
