The battle of Promise was an engagement in the Human-Covenant War where the Covenant assaulted and glassed the human colony of Promise.
Battle
In 2551, the Covenant attacked Promise. A number of UNSC ships were destroyed defending the colony with their wreckage forming a debris field above Promise.[3] Lieutenant Williams and Tiger Company of the 92nd Shock Troops Battalion participated in the UNSC's defense of Promise. Ultimately, the UNSC lost the battle, with Williams and other members of Tiger Company captured by the Covenant prior to the colony's glassing.[2]
On July 12, the Covenant fleet departed from Promise, leaving only the logistics vessel Triumph of Tolerance in orbit.[1]
Aftermath
The UNSC detected the Triumph of Tolerance still in Promise's orbit the next day and saw the chance for an operation to retrieve the vessel's kelguid in the hopes of finding the Covenant homeworld.[1] During the operation, the fires from the glassing still burned brightly on the surface.[3] John-117 and Avery Johnson rescued Williams and the Marines who had been taken prisoner during the battle,[2] who ultimately sacrificed themselves to ensure the destruction of the Triumph of Tolerance and the Minister of Harmony's experiments.[3]
