{Cutscene}
In the atmosphere of Installation 04, SKT-9 Bumblebee lifepod Lima Foxtrot Alpha 43 shoots through the sky at high speed attempting to land on the surface.
- Cortana: "We're coming in too fast!"
John-117 stands in the cockpit behind the pilot's seat, holding onto the bars of the ceiling as the marines bump in their seats, the lifepod shaking heavily as the air brakes fail to slow them.
- Lieutenant Taylor: "Damn, air brake failure. They blew too early."
The life pod clips a rocky hill and begins to spin out of control. The Master Chief continues to stand, bracing.
- Taylor: "I'm losin' her. Brace for impact!"
The life pod collides with the ground and flies up once more. Taylor's head is smashed between both sides of the cockpit. The exit hatch is forced open, taking the Master Chief's attention as a marine is pulled out and to his death, followed by another. The lifepod violently crashes and comes to a stop. The Master Chief briefly blacks out.
{Gameplay}
- Cortana: Chief! Chief, can you hear me? At last! Are you alright? Can you move?"
The Master Chief observes the crash site. Taylor is slumped dead in the pilot seat while two marines also lie dead in the vessel, more marines are strewn across the scorched crash site lifeless. A trail of flames and the remains of small burned trees and the broken air brakes are behind the lifepod.
- Cortana: "The others... the impact... there's nothing we can do."
- Cortana: "Alert! Covenant dropship inbound! They must be looking for survivors. I recommend immediate evasion."
The Master Chief crosses a nearby metallic bridge across the gorge, as a Spirit drop ship arrives and drops a squad of Sangheili and Unggoy near the lifepod. A pair of Covenant Banshee fighters arrive in the sky nearby.
- Cortana: "Warning! I've detected incoming Banshee fighters!"
The Master Chief evades or engages the Banshees as well as the squad. If one Banshee is destroyed, the other may attempt to flee.
- Cortana: "We should evacuate the area and find other survivors before other Covenant search teams arrive."
The Master Chief fights through more Covenant and proceeds through the valley, arriving to a large area with a large metallic structure.
- Cortana: "I'm reading another lifeboat beacon over the next hill. We should check to see if there are any survivors."
- Staff Sergeant Avery Junior Johnson(COM): "Cortana? Great to hear your voice again! We're pinned down by a large Covenant force. We would appreciate any assistance!"
The Master Chief assists Johnson and Fireteam Charlie as well as crewmen from the ship in clearing out the Covenant, and is approached enthusiastically by Johnson and his marines.
- Private M. Fitzgerald: "Good to see you, sir! I thought we were the only ones who made it off the Pillar of Autumn."
- Private Bisenti: "Good to see you, sir! Welcome to the party."
- Johnson: "It's a mess, sir. We're scattered all over this valley. We called for evac, but until you showed up, I thought we were cooked."
- Cortana: "Don't worry, Sergeant. We'll stay here until evac arrives."
- Cortana: "Warning: I have detected multiple Covenant drop ships on approach."
Spirit dropships begin to arrive to assault the marines occupying the large metal tower, and their respective arrivals are announced by the various marines. This time, Kig-Yar soldiers arrive alongside Sangheili and Unggoy.
- Bisenti (COM): "Heads up! I've got a Covenant dropship headin' in! Over here!"
- Bisenti (COM): "Oh man... they're everywhere!"
- Bisenti (COM): "Uh oh, another bandit droppin' in behind us! They're tryin' to flank us!"
- Private Manuel Mendoza (COM): "Uh, we may have a problem here. These bastards are everywhere!"
- Fitzgerald (COM): "Look sharp! Covenant dropship on approach! I could use some help over here!"
The fireteam is contacted by a friendly Pelican dropship while finishing off the Covenant from the last Spirit.
- Flight Captain Carol Rawley(COM): "This is Pelican Echo 419! Anybody reading me? Repeat: any UNSC personnel respond!"
- Cortana (COM): "Roger Echo 419, this is Fireteam Charlie. We read you. Is that you, Foehammer?"
- Rawley: "Roger, Fireteam Charlie. Good to hear from you. I'm on my way."
Three additional lifepods appear overhead as Foehammer arrives carrying a Warthog behind the Pelican's troop bay.
- Cortana: "Look, more lifeboats! They're coming in fast! If those lifeboats make it down the Covenant are gonna be right on top of them!"
- Cortana (COM): "Foehammer, we need you to disengage your Warthog. The Master Chief and I are going to see if we can save some soldiers."
- Rawley (COM): "Roger, Cortana."
- Cortana (COM): "The Master Chief
