The Truth and Reconciliation is the third campaign level in Halo: Campaign Evolved. It is a remake of a level of the same name originally in Halo: Combat Evolved.

{Cutscene}

Cut to a view of a Covenant Ket-pattern battlecruiser positioned above a desert plateau. It is night time, and the gas giant Threshold hovers prominently over the ring.

• Cortana (COM): "The enemy has captured Captain Keyes and are holding him aboard one of their cruisers, the Truth and Reconciliation. The ship is currently holding position above the other end of this plateau."

John-117, looking through the lens of a SRS99C-S2 AM sniper rifle, observes the area through the back of the troop bay of Echo-419, facing away from the marines of Fireteam Charlie.

• Private Bisenti: "So how do we get inside the ship if it's in the air? The corps issued me a rifle, not wings."

• Staff Sergeant Avery Junior Johnson: "There's a gravity lift that ferries troops and supplies between the ship and the surface. That's our ticket in."

• Flight Captain Carol Rawley: "Touchdown in ten seconds, people. We're in Covenant territory now."

{Gameplay}

• Cortana: "According to the topographic surveys I've obtained from the Covenant battle network we should be able to access the Covenant cruiser Truth and Reconciliation on foot. Head through the series of plateaus and foot trails up ahead."

The Master Chief disembarks from the Pelican onto the plateau, followed by Johnson, who is in turn followed by his squad.

• Johnson: "Hit it marines! Go, go, go! The corps ain't payin' us by the hour!"

• Cortana: "Stick to the higher ground to the right. We should be able to recon the Covenant position without being spotted."

• Cortana (COM): "Get ready to move in to support us, Sergeant. The Master Chief is going to covertly take out as many Covenant as he can. Don't open fire until you hear the enemy return fire on us. That should let us keep the element of surprise."

• Johnson (COM): "Yes, ma'am."

The Master Chief moves in toward Covenant territory as Johnson and his squad stay back. Multiple Shade turrets are around the area where Sangheili, Kig-Yar, and some Unggoy (and other sleeping Unggoy) patrol. Eventually, the Master Chief and/or the marines are detected or clear out the Covenant, prompting Johnson to direct his squad to move.

• Johnson (COM): "Open fire! OPEN FIRE!"

• Bisenti (COM) "Let ‘em have it!"

The marines begin to proceed around the cliff to the next section.

• Cortana: "Stop. Motion tracker shows movement around the next bend."

The marines fight through and arrive at another area where more Covenant are set up around two potential paths and a stone archway, unaware of the humans.

• Cortana (COM): "Covenant forces detected up ahead. The path up on the left should let us sneak up around them."

• Johnson (COM): "We'll hang back while you get into position, Chief."

'The marines stay behind as the Master Chief picks one of the three paths. Once he engages the enemy, Cortana will call the marines forward.

• Cortana (COM): "Cortana to Fireteam Charlie: Move up on the left... you should be able to flank the enemy."

While fighting the Covenant, the Master Chief finds an Active camouflage device next to the body of a dead Sangheili.

• Cortana: "This is a Covenant Active camouflage device. It will make us invisible for a short time, or until we open fire."

'Fireteam Charlie clears the area and proceeds through a path in the cliff, fighting through more Covenant and finding themselves underneath the Covenant vessel, where more Shades and Covenant are set up around the shift's gravity lift.

• Cortana (COM): "We're directly under the ship now."

• Johnson (COM): "Good work, marines."

• Bisenti (COM): "All right! Are we bad or what?"

• Manuel Mendoza (COM): "Mother of God... I never thought I'd get this close to one of these things. How the hell are we going to get inside that monster?"

• Cortana (COM): "The Covenant use a gravity lift to move troops and supplies between the ship and the surface. We need to ambush them at the grav lift's loading zone and use the lift to enter the ship."

• Bisenti: "Oh, that is all. That's us: the few, the proud... the expendable."

• M. Fitzgerald (COM): "Sir... those freakin' guns have us pinned down!"

• Cortana: "We need to deal with those stationary guns. I recommend we clear out the gun emplacements on the ridges surrounding the pass. That should let the marines advance."

• Cortana (COM): Alert. Covenant drop ships are inbound."

• Bisenti (COM): "Man, it's always something..."

Multiple waves of Covenant descend from the gravity lift as well as from Spirit dropships.

• Cortana: "Those marines are outnumbered. We could secure one of those stationary guns and provide fire support..."

The marines eventually kill the Covenant, but a pair of Mgalekgolo descend down the gravity lift.

• Cortana: "Hunters! Flank and hit their exposed... worm bits."

The Hunters are killed and the area secured

• Cortana (COM): "Cortana to Echo 419. We've reached the gravity lift and are ready for reinforcements."
