Differences from the original game
This section is a stub. You can help Halopedia by expanding it.
- The Master Chief makes a new sarcastic response to Cortana claiming he crashed the Banshee on purpose, a jab at Cortana teleporting him upside-down in the previous mission.
- There is an entirely new Legendary ending in which Avery Johnson is relaxing on the beach on an unknown island on Installation 04, watching footage of himself in the original game’s Legendary ending and reminiscing about the “old days” before noticing the distant explosion of the Pillar of Autumn, evacuating on a Pelican dropship (likely that of Sheila Polaski) and breaking the fourth wall, directly teasing a sequel.
- The Longsword is boarded directly through the cockpit similarly to the Sabre, rather than in an underside ramp in the original.
- Instead of running directly into the Longsword and escaping, the Master Chief is ambushed in the cockpit by a Flood Tank, ultimately killing it in the struggle by a shot to the mouth with the custom pistol given to him by Jacob Keyes.
- The final cutscene ends right as the Master Chief’s helmet lifts off, thus preventing his face from being seen.
- The route to engineering will take the player directly through the armory, making stocking on explosives easier. However, there is no longer an encounter with active camouflage combat forms.
- Cortana contacts Echo 419 as soon as the last engine reactor is destroyed rather than when the Master Chief enters the elevator, which is instead where Echo 419 contacts Cortana a second time.
- Echo 419 now makes two appearances during the Warthog run, the first being in a new outdoor area being pursued by two Banshees, where she evades and is chased off, she can be heard attempting to evade unsuccessfully. The second is nearly identical to the original, where she is shot down while attempting to pick up the Master Chief at the external junction, but her final moments can be heard on the radio.
- The Warthog run remains largely the same, but the appearance has changed greatly for consistency with the structure of the Pillar of Autumn. Much of the run is made of wreckage and there is an outdoor section where the ship has fractured virtually in half, and the “bridge” where Foehammer attempts to extract the Master Chief is now an area that is opened by large openings caused by damage to the ship’s hull.
- In the post-credits scene, 343 Guilty Spark is shown leaving the space around Halo and approaching the Threshold gas mine.
- When 343 Guilty Spark collects the ship’s recording of human history, stills from the first Terminal from Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary can be seen on the terminal screen, particularly those seen as he sees a historical montage while scanning the approaching Pillar of Autumn.

Production notes
A few of the cutscenes in the level are inspired by the Halo: Combat Evolved storyboards created by Lee Wilson during the development of Halo: Combat Evolved. The scene that begins on the Flood combat form's face before rotating around is based on the X70 12 storyboards; the scene of John-117 and Cortana in cockpit of the Longsword breaking out of the atmosphere is also loosely based on the X70 13 storyboard, while the scene of the Longsword avoiding the debris from the exploding ring is also loosely based on the X70 16 storyboards.
