It suddenly transitions to the his point of view as the Chief, with the sound of the two kids screaming merging into a {{Pattern|Zurdo|Wraith}}'s mortar detonating. He is lying on the desert ground looking at his fallen helmet. Then, he raises his hands up—still dazed and temporarily half-deaf from being knocked out—and staggers towards his helmet while hearing the Ellie's voice in his head again. As soon as the helmet is put on, the camera switches to a third person view, revolving around the Chief who's crouched on the sand, recovering from the blast that sent him off his [[Mongoose (fiction)|Mongoose]] (shown lying on its side). The sound is completely restored now and communication from [[Cortana]] and some soldiers could be heard (refer to transcript). An [[MA5C Individual Combat Weapon System|assault rifle]] is also shown lying on the ground.

The scene switches to Master Chief getting up - now fully recovered - and holstering the rifle to his back. At this point, a few Plasma Mortars could be seen heading high up into the sky, one of which is heading towards Master Chief. Quickly, he responds to the soldiers - informing them that he is not lost yet - and reaches for a [[Bubble Shield]] and activating it just in time as the [[plasma mortar]] reaches the vicinity, sending the Mongoose flying away. As for who the kids seen at the beginning are, [[Bungie]] has yet to give a straight answer. They may or may not be John and another female [[Spartan]]. It does seem slightly unlikely it is John as the trailer takes place on [[Earth]], and John came from Eridanus. [[KP]] has confirmed that the trailer took place on Earth:

However, it is likely that Master Chief is located on earth but reminiscing about his childhood on another location. At the end of the scene with the children the Master Chief's helmet is where the girl was lying down, indicating that the boy is looking at the helmet. It is also speculated that the girl is [[Kelly-087|Kelly]], one of John's friends. This implies that the boy in the ad is a young John-117 and John is having a flashback to one of his memories, during his training on [[Reach]] (Something backed up by the non-Earth night sky).

There is also another explanation of what the boy and the girl could resemble. They may be [[Master Chief]] and [[Cortana]] <<younger>>. The theory is: The whole scene is a flashback. The place is Eridanus II, and The boy ( Master Chief ), is still young, and has a conversation with speculated [[Dr. Catherine Halsey]] ( Cortana, because Cortana is the AI clone of Catherine ). He still doesn't know what Catherine has in mind for him. He is looking at the stars and listening to the Dr.. When suddenly, he hears a bang. He turns to her, but instead he sees his helmet. He realizes he has just woken up from the crash landing and he IS in fact looking at Cortana (Dr. Halsey), because her place is in his helmet. And when Dr. suddenly disappears, he considers that Cortana is in trouble ( the [[Gravemind]] is torturing her ). This theory makes some sense, but it's just a theory. Also, it is highly unlikely due to the fact that Dr. Halsey is much older than John and first met him as an adult when he was six years old.

*When Master Chief grabs the [[MA5C]] Assault rifle, the "On" button and [[Marathon]] logo are clearly visible.
*Master Chief jumps into a pack of Brutes and Wraiths in the last seconds of the ad<ref name="BungieTalk"/>
*When [[Master Chief]] picks up his rifle you can clearly see a [[Warthog]], but when the Chief activates the [[Bubble Shield]], you can clearly see the Mongoose in front of the Chief right before the mortar round makes contact. (Many people claim that the Warthog in question changes to the Mongoose. It is also claimed that this was an intentional move by Bungie. However, upon close examination of the trailer, it is clear that the Warthog is behind Master Chief, to his left. While in the other shot, the Mongoose is in front of him, slightly to his right. This could suggest that the Chief was in a convoy driving with marines on mongooses when they were ambushed by the Mortar tanks.)
*Just before Master Chief leaps off the cliff, if you look at the sky, the clouds seem to be in a circle and there is a flash of what could be lightning. This is similar to the ''Halo 3'' Announcement Trailer where just above what might be the [[Ark]], the clouds are spinning in a circle and there appears to be lightning in them. That may mean that the battle part of the trailer is near the remains and ruins of Old Mombasa. This could be either in the ''Halo 3'' level, [[The Storm]] or [[Tsavo Highway]].
*On the [[MJOLNIR]] Helmet, shortly before Master Chief reaches down to grab it, a small image appears. Speculation implies that it is Master Chief's head, though it also looks somewhat like a dog's head. This may coincide with an inside joke within Bungie, regarding a dog's head (Ling-Ling) which they need to take over the world. Others say the face looks like a pig. This was later confirmed to be clouds and Covenant cruisers.
*When Master Chief puts his Assault Rifle on the back, it is diagonally upside down. But during the shipped version of ''Halo 3'' when MC put his Assault Rifle on his back the Rifle is never placed diagonally-upside down.
*When the Bubble Shield is deployed he is holding the pistol, then when he starts running he takes out the AR in his right hand and puts the pistol in his left, then just before he jumps the pistol goes onto his left haunch. (Which is the other side from in the game)
*The Brute Chieftain in the advertisement is seen holding the [[Fist of Rukt]], the Gravity Hammer from ''[[Halo 2]]''.
*The mortar that was about to hit the Master Chief most likely came from the [[Type-25 Wraith]]. However, in the game, it does not seem to be able to shoot the mortar that far.
*The Bubble Shield is different than the one seen in the game, as it's only big enough to protect Master Chief. The bubble shield in ''Halo 3'', however, is bigger and can protect more people. Also, the bubble shield in the trailer is deployed like a grenade, while the bubble shield in ''Halo 3'' is mounted on a tripod.
*If you look close enough you can see that the boy has a slight gap in his teeth.  Master Chief was described as a brown haired boy with a gap in his teeth.
*When John jumps into the pack of Brutes, he leaps directly at a Brute Chieftain wielding a Gravity Hammer, this either means he had to dodge or that he struck before the Chieftain could strike.

It begins with a young John-117 and his childhood friend, Ellie Bloom,[2] lying in grass contemplating the existence of life on other planets. John turns to look at her, but instead sees the Master Chief's helmet lying on the ground.

It suddenly transitions to the his point of view as the Chief, with the sound of the two kids screaming merging into a Zurdo-pattern Wraith's mortar detonating. He is lying on the desert ground looking at his fallen helmet. Then, he raises his hands up—still dazed and temporarily half-deaf from being knocked out—and staggers towards his helmet while hearing the Ellie's voice in his head again. As soon as the helmet is put on, the camera switches to a third person view, revolving around the Chief who's crouched on the sand, recovering from the blast that sent him off his Mongoose (shown lying on its side). The sound is completely restored now and communication from Cortana and some soldiers could be heard (refer to transcript). An assault rifle is also shown lying on the ground.

Production notes[edit]

The kids and the clumps of grass around them were taken from real footage. The CGI does not begin until the Chief’s helmet is seen for the first time.[3] As for who the kids seen at the beginning are, Bungie never gave a straight answer. Kevin Paul stated that the trailer took place on Earth. However, he did not explicitly state that the flashback sequence with the children was on Earth.[4]
