The battle of Dormire III was a military engagement fought on January 23, 2560, between forces of the United Nations Space Command and the Banished. The battle was fought in orbit of the colony world Dormire III and saw the Banished attempt to raid the planet's moon to acquire Forerunner technology buried under its surface. The Banished force brought to bear was initially overpowering for the limited UNSC garrison on the planet, though they were pushed back by the surprise intervention of Promethean forces on the side of the UNSC.[1]
Background[edit]
During the Guardian emergences of late 2558, a Guardian Custode was awakened beneath the surface of Dormire III's moon. This event was cataclysmic and shattered the moon, spreading large chunks of debris throughout orbit and wreaking havoc on the planet below. This event coincided with the Created uprising, which saw Cortana attempt to impose her will upon the galaxy. The dominion of the Created was ended a year later during the battle over Installation 07, leaving the UNSC able to begin reorganising their now-thin forces.[1]
In late January of 2560, a Banished task force consisting of two karves and an unidentified flagship[Note 1] were deployed to Dormire III and its moon for unknown reasons. This prompted a response by the UNSC Air Force, who were tasked with the planet's defence.[1]

Notes[edit]
- ^ a b The flagship leading the Banished task force is currently unidentified, though its description—"black", "angular", "jagged", and unlike a standard Banished dreadnought, implies it may be Heart of Malice.
