A Covenant Methane refinery on Harvest on the level Relic Approach.
A methane refinery on Harvest.

The methane refinery is a Covenant structure.[1]

Design details[edit]

As its name suggests, the methane refinery likely refines methane into canisters for the use of Unggoy troops. They are often deployed with large methane storage tanks.[1]

History[edit]

Outside the relic on Harvest, the Covenant set up a methane refinery. In February, 2531, a Spartan-II fought 25 Covenant soldiers at that methane refinery. The Spartan killed seven Covenant soldiers, but was quickly killed by the Sangheili Ustaf 'Nbekee. As a war prize, the Unggoy under 'Nbekee's command were allowed to play games with the Spartan's helmet.[2] Later, at the same methane refinery site, UNSC forces led by Sergeant John Forge from Alpha Base launched an assault and destroyed the methane refinery before they arrived at the relic.[1]

In-game information[edit]

Two Methane Refineries appear on the Halo Wars level Relic Approach. One of the optional objectives on the level is to destroy both methane refineries as well as the large cylindrical storage tanks in the surrounding area. Destruction of the refineries removes the Covenant's ability to send in dropships. Destroying the smaller methane canisters scattered around the level unlocks the Endless Fun achievement.
