Power Extractors is a structure built and used by the Banished at their military outposts. They are used for deployments onto Forerunner megastructures, tapping into the vast energy reserves of their host installations to siphon energy for the Banished to use.[1][2] They are a functional equivalent to the Reactor and Generator buildings used by the United Nations Space Command, and the Forerunners' Power Nodes.

Overview[edit]

Power Extractors are designed to tap into the enormous energy feeds of megastructures like the Ark or Halo Array, which are powered via vacuum energy. They are constructed in carefully-sited facilities and designed to siphon fractions of this immense reserve, though the act is not subtle and can draw a hostile response from a given installation's Sentinel defences. Even subtle power siphoning operations eventually draw this attention, which in turn gradually escalates the intensity of a given Banished occupation.[1] Although the Banished do try to limit what Sentinel response they draw in their extraction operations, the same can not be said for their effects on the local environment or the stability of the overall megastructure.[2] If used in a sufficiently volatile region, Power Extractors run the risk of exploding on use.[3]

Power Extractors may be upgraded to Augmented Extractors, significantly increasing their output.[1]

Power harvested from extractors may be stored in Power Silos at Banished camps.

History[edit]

To-date, the Banished have employed Power Extractors as part of their occupations on both the Ark in the Second Ark Conflict and Zeta Halo in the Zeta Halo conflict.[2]

During an outbreak of the Flood in the Ark conflict in summer 2559, the Clan of the Long Shields were unable to use Power Extractors due to the unstable region they were operating in. When attempting to operate a salvage drill on the Ark, the extractors exploded, forcing Voridus' troops to manually harvest power from crystals to power their operation.[3]

Power Extractors can be purchased for Supplies 200, with each new extractor costing an additional Supplies 300 than the previous one. The Power Extractor can be upgraded with the Augmented Extractor upgrade to double Power Power output for Power 300.

Power accumulation.

Massive channels for power criss-cross the Ark, and carefully sited facilities can dig into these channels and safely siphon a tiny fraction of their potential. which is accumulated as Power. The Augmented Extractor upgrade significantly improves Power collection, which is of vital importance when threats to the Banished and their mission begin to multiply.

The siphoning and filtering of energy from the Ark is not subtle, but it is surprisingly efficient and causes only relatively small disturbances in the installation's ambient security grid. Nevertheless, no power extraction facility operates for long without attracting the attention of Aggressor Sentinels, which begin to escalate the outpost's threat level to the Ark and the scale of the reaction.
