During the development of Halo 5: Guardians, a weapon socket system was conceptualized by 343 industries for inclusion within the game, although it was ultimately cut for unknown reasons.[1]

History[edit]

The Forerunner socket system was a weapons system cut from Halo 5: Guardians, for use with the Forerunner faction's weapons and vehicles. The cores would have been able to be swapped out on specific vehicles and weapons, but would not be able to be swapped between the vehicles or weapons.

Gameplay[edit]

Socket cores[edit]

  • Weapon Core: Beam: The beam core was a part of the mega cores designed for the Forerunner vehicles also cut from Halo 5. The cut core was to fire a continuous beam of hard light.
  • Ability Core: Shield Array: The shield array mega core was designed for the Forerunner vehicles also cut from Halo 5. The cut core was to produce a blue hard light shield in front of a small area on the vehicle.
  • Deployer Core: Enemy Spawn: The enemy spawn mega core was designed for the Forerunner vehicles also cut from Halo 5. The cut core was to produce Sentinel like pods that would hunt down and attack enemies.
