"The time has now come. Step onto the battlefield. And forge your legend."
— Tenrai III haiku[2]

Tenrai III was a multiplayer event for Halo Infinite, and the last event of Season 04: Infection, having been held between September 19, 2023 and October 3, 2023. Succeeding Tenrai II, Tenrai III also featured content based on the Tenrai Fractures universe, spread out over 10 tiers of unlocks, rounding out 20 tiers centering on the Fractures theme.[2]

This event would be the last to use said terminology, with events being rebranded to operations following the release of Season 05: Reckoning. Continuing the theme of this Fracture continuity, this event would be followed by Tenrai IV on June 4, 2024.

Overview[edit]

Tenrai Social[edit]

A time-limited thematic playlist called "Tenrai Social" was added to Halo Infinite during the event. All the maps in the playlists are Forge-made and have a Japanese aesthetic. All players in this playlist start with five Grappleshot charges, two Anskum-pattern plasma grenades, and unlimited charged Meluth'qelos-pattern energy swords.[2]

Arno Kiss sweepstakes[edit]

Tenrai III's launch featured a contest Halo fans were able to participate in. To enter, users were prompted to create and submit a Tenrai III-themed poster in their own style, the original of which was created by Arno Kiss, featuring a HATAMOTO-clad samurai and a kitsune. Submissions took place from September 20, to September 29, 2023. Winners would be noted on Halo's official Twitter[3], and would also receive two prints, one of the Tenrai III poster, and another of early Halo Infinite concept art featuring John-117.[4]

Tenrai III content[edit]

Content for Tenrai III was initially available through a 10 tier event pass, available over the event's two week run. Completing challenges over these two weeks allowed the player to progress and unlock content. Helmet options earned through Tenrai III would be made available on all armor cores during Season 05: Reckoning, with shoulder pad options following with the release of Spirit of Fire in January of 2024.

While initially exclusive to this event, Tenrai III's content would eventually be added to the Exchange during the Warpath operation in September of 2025, alongside Tenrai II's content.

Weekly rewards[edit]

Two weekly challenges with exclusive rewards, a Yoroi-exclusive utility armor and a weapon coating for the S7 sniper, were available during Tenrai III. The Solarian Legend coating would eventually be added to the Exchange during the Warpath operation in September of 2025, while the Heaven's Valor utility would remain exclusive to Tenrai III's run.

Development notes[edit]

Tenrai III featured an unspoken shift in its intended content. Instead of the Heaven's Gift chest armor and the Heaven's Cry shoulder pads, Tenrai III originally had the Japanese-themed Weathervane visor, and Wave Slicer shoulder pads as free unlocks. Ultimately, Weathervane would be released in the Cosmic Dawn bundle, while the Wave Slicer shoulders would be featured in the Otomosho bundle that launched with Tenrai II.

The exact order of unlocks were able to be seen for a brief period on sites using Infinite's API to display unlocks and upcoming events, and the original unlocks could be seen in the customization overview image for Season 04, showing a yellow Yoroi-clad Spartan using the now-swapped shoulders and visor. Below is a table displaying the original Tenrai III, prior to this change.
