Battle of Sunaion

Template:New Content Template:Battle Infobox The Battle of Sunaion was an engagement fought between the joint forces of the Swords of Sanghelios and the United Nations Space Command and Jul 'Mdama's Covenant faction in 2558.

Prelude

Following the disappearance of MCPO John-117 aboard the Meridian Guardian, and forerunner attacks apparantly orchestrated by Cortana, a way was needed to get to their location to bring the situation under controll, unfortunately the slipspace cordinates of the Guardian at Meridian were of forerunner encoding which Doctor Catherine Elisabeth Halsey could not decipher. However the AI Roland revaealed a Guardian was known to exist still dormant near the city of Sunaion on Sanghelios. Halsey could feed it the coordinates and take them to the location of the Master Chief and Cortana. However, Sanghelios was decalred off limits by the UNSC, thus Captain Laskey only sent a small team comprised of Sarah Palmer, Doctor Halsey herself and Fireteam Osiris to complete the operation which had to remain deniable.

Meanwhile on Sanghelios the Arbiter and his now fully united Swords of Sanghelios found themselves under attack at Vadam Keep from Covenant forces who were now desperate folowing the death of Jul Mdama. Fireteam Osiris arrives and rescues the Arbiter and the now joint forces planed a series of operations to both take the Guardian at suinaon and annhialate the last of the covenant who were stationed there at once.

The first operation involved capturing a forerunner constructor sentinel, from a facility guarded by a covenant Kraken excavator. The Arbiter's air forces drove the kraken back and Fireteam Osiris dealt the final blow by boarding the Kraken via Forerunner Phaetons and destroying it's core. Osiris then entered the forerunner facility and after a brief altercation with forerunner defenses manage to retrieve the constructor. Doctor Halsey programs the Constructor to activate the Guardian at Sunaion and follow the slip space coordinates of the Meridian Guardian to Cortana's apparant whereabouts

Battle

Once the constructor programed by Doctor Catherine Halsey began moving in to activate the Guardian at Sunaion, The Swords of Sanghelios began its assault on the city. Several warships contested the skies above while a force of Lichs and Banshees were deployed to the city. The Arbiter accompanied by fireteam Osiris dropped into the city via a Lich with the goal of disabling the Anti-Air guns stationed around the city. Once the AA guns were destroyed, the two forces split up with the Arbiter going to do battle against the remaining Covenant forces, while Osiris used the undercity to move toward the Guardian, as even with the AA guns destroyed, the air trafic was still to heavy for a reliable path to the Guardian. After fighting through Covenant resistance in the undercity, Osiris, emerges far closer to the Guardian, however, with it's activation Promethian machines apear and engage both forces, apparantly decimating both the Covenant and the Arbiter's Swords of Sanghelios. Osiris now running out of time, rendezvous with the Arbiter and fights through the last of the Prometheans before reaching the Guardian, including the Warden Eternal who inadvertently reveals the Guardian's destination upon his defeat. With the Guardian too for for Osiris to reach on foot, Commander Sarah Palmer accompanied by Doctor Halsey arrives in a Pelican gunship to ferry them to their destination. The Pelican is critically damaged en-route but manages to get Osiris to the Guardian before crashing into the sea. Palmer and Halsey both survive and are recovered by the Arbiter and Swords of Sangelios, who presumably win the battle shortly after the Guardian's departure.
