Coordinating AI for Bengaluru Station and her battlecluster[1]

Tethys is a smart AI in the United Nations Space Command. She was originally in service of UNSC High Command, though was shepherded away from Earth by Black-Box during the Created uprising. As of December 2559, she currently acts as the coordinating AI for a battle cluster of orbital defense platforms over Earth, one of which including Bengaluru Station.[1]

Operational history[edit]

During the Created uprising of October 2558, Tethys (alongside Black-Box, Gabriela, and Sankar) was one of nine UNSC High Command (HIGHCOM) AIs identified by Black-Box as potential targets for Created subversion .[1] As per a broad reading of UNSC Regulation 12-145-72, Article 55, Tethys and the other eight AIs were removed from HIGHCOM systems, with their data crystal chips safely secured inside a briefcase lined with C10 explosives, and prepared for final dispensation. As such, the AIs were safeguarded against corruption or conversion by Cortana to work against the UNSC. For the next year, the briefcase housing the AIs was kept by CINCONI, Admiral Serin Osman, on a hidden colony world known as Rossbach's World. During this time, Osman pondered the choice given to her by Black-Box; she could forcibly recruit Tethys and the other AIs in the case to serve the UNSC's cause, thereby proving the Created's point about AI slavery; or she could destroy the case and deny the AIs to the enemy. Alternatively, she could consult the AIs on their own choice, and if they chose to join the Created of their own volition, she could package them on one of their prowler's 72 slipstream space probes and send them to the Created herself.[2] On November 4, 2559, this choice was made for Osman when she and Lord Hood were extracted from Rossbach's World by Gray Team.[3]

By December 12, 2559, Tethys had been returned to Earth and had the RUINA subroutine installed in her system, which ensured her permanent loyalty to the UNSC. She was installed as the coordinating AI for Bengaluru Station, an orbital defense platform orbiting Earth in case of future attacks by alien threats. During Black-Box's decommissioning ceremony aboard the station, she interrupted the proceedings to warn the assembled officers that a massive armada of Banished warships had arrived in the Sol system - as per the advanced warning provided by UNSC Victory of Samothrace upon returning from the Battle of Venezia the day prior. Throughout the ensuing Battle of Earth, Tethys presumably coordinated Magnetic Accelerator Cannon for Bengaluru and her sister-stations.[1]
