From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
- "Commander Lasky, pursuant to Article 55 of UNSC Regulation 12-145-72. I am ordering you to remove that AI's data chip and retire it for final dispensation."
- — Captain Andrew Del Rio[1]
UNSC Regulation 12-145-72, Article 55 regards the procedures for decommissioning UNSC Smart AIs who are at the end of their lifespan.[1]
History[edit]
During the Battle of Requiem in July 2557, Captain Andrew Del Rio cited the regulation upon seeing Cortana lash out and display the effects of rampancy, using it as grounds to order Cortana's final dispensation. The act was not carried out, however, due to a refusal to allow the order by John-117.[1]
During the Created uprising of October 2558, a very broad reading of the regulation was used by Black-Box as justification to preemptively secure nine AIs (including himself, Gabriela, and Tethys) for final dispensation, as to ensure they could not be captured or converted by the Created. The nine AI data crystal chips were secured in a case lined with C10 explosives, and then given to Admiral Serin Osman during her evacuation to Rossbach's World.[2][3] The regulation was later invoked after Osman and the AIs' extraction aboard Bengaluru Station over Earth, during the final dispensation of Black-Box. The ceremony was interrupted, however, by the arrival of the Banished and the outbreak of the 2559 Battle of Earth.[4]
