The C708 Longsword is a variant of GA-TL1 Longsword in service with the UNSC Navy.[3][4]

Overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

The C708 Longsword is similar in form and scale to the C712 model used by the UNSC Air Force, and much smaller than the Navy's C709 variant. Its cockpit has a canopy which can be opened and closed—a feature that is notably absent from both the C709 and C712 variants. The cockpit has seats for a pilot and a co-pilot in a tandem seating configuration, versus the other models' side-by-side seats. Two fusion drives are built into the wings, allowing the craft to achieve SSTO.[2]

Armaments[edit]

The C708 Longsword is equipped with four ALI-50 110mm autocannons. These weapons are placed in a fixed-forward position, with a pair situated on the left and right flanks of the cockpit. The craft also has an ordnance bay capable of stocking four ASGM-10 missiles.[Note 1]

Production notes[edit]

  • The C708 Longsword variant was first mentioned off-handedly in the Library entry for Longswords in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. It made its first visual appearance 15 years later in Halo: Campaign Evolved, which replaces all C709 Longswords with their C708 counterparts. That being said, it was confirmed in Canon Fodder Issue 171 that the Longswords are canonically C709 variants to align with the events of Halo: First Strike.[4]
  • According to the Halo: Campaign Evolved manual, the Longsword is armed with twin gauss cannons and an internal weapons bay.[1] However, the vehicle's in-game model features four distinct guns—two flanking either side of the cockpit—with no external Gauss cannons or other weapon hardpoints visible on the hull. Due to this visual discrepancy, this article prioritizes the technical specifications listed on the bridge display screens from the level The Pillar of Autumn.

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ a b c The display screens found aboard the bridge in the level The Pillar of Autumn list the Longsword as being equipped with an unspecified number of ALI-50 autocannons and what appear to be four ASGM-10 missiles. The in-game model of the craft has four guns, two flanking each side of the cockpit, which can be inferred to be the autocannons. No other weapons are present on the model. The bridge screens also list each craft as being crewed by two pilots. See this article's production notes section for more information.
