Design Details

Chassis

These Phantoms are heavily modified Type-44 and Type-52 Phantom dropships,[4] designed to serve as gunships and firing platforms for the Banished.[1]

They are fitted with a twin impulse drive system, this makes the Phantom capable of long-range subluminal travel.[1][2]

It is also equipped with a gravity lift that can be used to pick up and drop off individuals.[1]

Armaments

These Phantoms are fitted with one heavy plasma cannon.[1]

Operational History

Several of these Phantoms were kept aboard Enduring Conviction to augment her existing stocks of Spirits and Liches during the Banished's operations on Installation 00 in 2559.[1] In 2560, the Banished used another chassis variant of the Banished Phantom during the conflict on Installation 07.[5][6] While stopping the Reformation, the Master Chief shoots down three of them at the Command Spire so that the Weapon can deactivate the Spire network.[7]

Gameplay

Halo Wars 2

  • Info: Mobile Garrison, Aerial transport for infantry, Provides armed support
  • Tier: 1
  • Cost: Population 3, Supplies 225, Power 90

Phantom Upgrade: Gunboat Capacity

  • Info: Increases unit capacity from 2 infantry squads to 3.
  • Tier: 3
  • Cost: Supplies 0, Power 800

In Halo Wars 2, Banished Phantoms are exclusive units for Arbiter Ripa 'Moramee and can be made at Banished outposts once the leader power has unlocked them. Similar to the M650 Mastodon, the Phantom can be used as a mobile garrison. Phantoms perform okay against aircraft, but poorly against infantry, vehicles, and structures. Due to their low offensive power Phantoms benefit greatly from a complement of infantry. If the Phantom is destroyed, the survival of the passenger depends on their remaining health when aboard. If the Phantom was destroyed with passengers in full health, they will survive but will take damage. If the Phantom was destroyed with heavily wounded passengers, the entire passengers will be killed. In Blitz the Phantom costs 80 energy.

Halo Infinite

Banished Phantoms in Halo Infinite have more health than its predecessor but has less resistance with other weaponry. The Banished Phantom can be destroyed by explosive weapons, Sentinel Beams, and Sniper Rifles. If players were caught inside a fifteen-meter radius when the Phantom was destroyed, the player will suffer an effect similar to receiving a flashbang.
