The Type 14 Magnetic/Anti-Tank Mine is used as both a mine and a satchel-charge type of bomb, containing 6.8 kilograms of C-7 high explosive. The arming fuse can be set for five, ten, or fifteen seconds. The magnetic attachment device ensures that it will adhere to a vehicle that passes over it. It is used exclusively in Halo 2 and Halo 3 multiplayer matches, and is not featured in any campaigns or in any novels.

The Type 14 magnetic anti-tank mine/antimatter charge,[1] or No.14 MK5 anti-tank mine,[2] is a piece of antimatter explosive ordnance used by the United Nations Space Command.

Overview[edit]

Design details[edit]

The Type-14 is an antimatter charge used by the UNSC as an anti-tank landmine.[1] The bomb weighs 15 kilograms (32 lb), and is magnetic in nature - allowing it to latch onto the armour of vehicles.[2] It consists of a olive-brown circular casing with a rim around the middle. The top and bottom of the casing have a detachable panel, and the sides are covered in labels reading:[2]

MINE ANTI-TANK
NO14 32LB MK5
MAG A-M CHGE
CJ 5/52 101

A unique variant of the bomb forgoes the extruded ridge in favour of a cutaway around the middle, from which a red light is emitted.[6]

The Covenant employ the Riruku-pattern void maker, an antimatter charge of similar size, for similar purposes.[9]

Gameplay[edit]

It is used exclusively in Assault-type games from Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo: Reach multiplayer matches. In Halo: Reach Invasion gametypes, players playing as Covenant Sangheili utilize a Riruku-pattern void maker for similar purposes.

In Assault games with standard settings, the bomb will have an unusually high melee strength, to compensate for the bomb carrier not being able to use their weapons. The bomb is usually a one-hit-kill from any angle.

Production notes[edit]

The name for the bomb was first provided in an out-of-game source in The Art of Halo: Creating a Virtual World, as the Type 14 magnetic anti-tank mine/antimatter charge, corresponding with the decals found on the in-game model in Halo 2. When the page was first made on Halopedia, the name was written as Type 14 Magnetic/Anti-Tank Mine - a naming convention not used in any known source material but seemingly based on the Art of Halo label. The later Halo Waypoint article on the Mark I ADS in Halo Legends seemingly lists its armaments as including the Type 18 Magnetic/Bayonet-style Claymore - seemingly-copying the naming convention established by Halopedia.

Trivia[edit]

 • The bomb has scripted messages embedded on it, each designed for a specific multiplayer map. For more, see Messages on bomb.
 • On Bungie.net and Halo Waypoint, the description for a Bomb Explosion kill in Halo: Reach is 'Somebody set us up...' which is a reference to the "All Your Base" meme.
