UNSC Fearful Symmetry is a Mulsanne-class light frigate in service with the UNSC Navy.[1]
Service history[edit]
Fearful Symmetry was one of two vessels to be deployed to Nysa in early March of 2560, alongside the Swords of Sanghelios A'uzr-pattern frigate, Sword of Conjunction. The two were deployed there in response to a distress call sent out by the staff at the Avery J. Johnson Academy of Military Science on February 29, after a rogue smart AI named Iratus had been unleashed on the facility. The staff had used the base's slipspace COM launcher to send a distress call to Anvil Station, which arrived on March 3, prompting a hasty response. By 0327 hours on March 4, Fearful Symmetry had entered the outer edge of the Hyades system to find a Banished invasion of Nysa in progress, led by the dreadnought Ghost of Kholo, operated by the New Colonial Alliance.[1]
Fearful Symmetry arrived in the Hyades system shortly after the arrival of Sword of Conjunction, which had spent the intervening time reconnoitering the situation, eventually giving the signal for Fearful Symmetry to join them. The frigate headed toward a preestablished rally point to meet with Sword of Conjunction, though Shipmistress Vedu 'Ehtar encouraged Fearful Symmetry to begin its attack; both agreed that frigates alone would not have the firepower to fend off a full Banished invasion of the world, and instead decided to concentrate on evacuating key personnel from the ground. Sword of Conjunction arrived at Nysa first and began deploying Riftborn operatives onto the surface via drop pod, while its own wings of strikecraft distracted the Banished fleet. Once Fearful Symmetry made it to Nysa, the frigate descended into atmosphere and conducted an attack run on Ghost of Kholo, using its Brightlance reflex laser with a shot to the dreadnought's starboard bow, temporarily overloading its systems.[1]
While Ghost of Kholo was temporarily disabled, Fearful Symmetry launched Pelican dropship Bravo 198 to the academy, with Jun-A266 and Rosenda-A344 aboard. Once the Pelican arrived at its landing zone, the two SPARTAN-IIIs cleared the site for dust-off and escorted a number of surviving personnel; Spartan Commander Laurette Agryna and Spartans Hieu Dinh, Sigrid Eklund, and Adrian Vesco, onto the dropship. The Pelican then launched back into space to dock with Fearful Symmetry again, before the frigate promptly returned to Anvil Station.[1]
Trivia[edit]
The frigate is named for Fearful Symmetry; a famous phrase from William Blake's poem The Tyger.
