The Brightlance compound reflex laser[2] is a laser-based directed energy weapon employed as the primary armament of the Mulsanne-class light frigate.

Usage[edit]
Unlike the traditional MAC cannon from other UNSC frigate classes, the Brightlance reflex laser on the Mulsanne-class frigate is mounted between its dual hulls. The Brightlance can be offensively used to disable enemy ships by overloading many of their systems.[3] One such weapon was employed by UNSC Panama against the assault carrier Purveyor of Virtue, to little effect.[1]
During the battle of Nysa, the frigate UNSC Fearful Symmetry used its Brightlance to attack a Banished dreadnought operated by the New Colonial Alliance over the Avery J. Johnson Academy of Military Science. In the engagement, Symmetry came in on an attack run against the larger capital ship, using its Brightlance to strike the dreadnought's starboard bow and temporarily overload its systems before retreating back into orbit. This attack opened a temporary window for an evacuation of the base's key staff.[3]
