Adrian Vesco is a SPARTAN-IV supersoldier of the United Nations Space Command. As of March 3, 2560, Vesco was assigned to Anvil Station and paired with Ovi 'Taar as Riftborn special operatives.[1]
Biography[edit]
Throughout his military career, Adrian Vesco conducted numerous orbital drops, more times than he could recall. These were mostly done in human-designed drop pods, and through experience eventually found that he dealt with the process of the drop best by humming shanties from his home.[2] He was eventually inducted into the SPARTAN-IV program and by March 2560, assigned to Anvil Station as a member of the Riftborn. As a Riftborn operative he was paired with Ovi 'Taar, a Sangheili warrior of the Swords of Sanghelios. The two engaged in a variety of drills, simulations, and multi-modal tactics courses created to increase the cooperative output of the multi-species effort. Vesco and 'Taar regularly visited the station's Commissary 3—commonly known as Shots Fired—in the evenings after their combat simulations. Here, the two would share banter with each other, often at the expense of the other's species.[1]
On March 3, 2560, Anvil Station received a distress call from Nysa, alerting the station to a massive invasion of the planet by the Banished. In response, Stationmaster Toda 'Murajai began preparing a response force centred on a A'uzr-pattern sword frigate, Sword of Conjunction. The frigate was to head to Nysa alongside a UNSC Mulsanne-class light frigate UNSC Fearful Symmetry and extract critical personnel from the Banished attack. Spartan Vesco and Ovi 'Taar were one of the Riftborn pairs selected for the operation and, at 0337 hours on March 4, were orbital dropped into the Avery J. Johnson Academy of Military Science on the besieged world, using Yado-pattern Intrusion Carapaces to breach into Banished-controlled airspace.[2]
Vesco and 'Taar landed around 100 metres (330 ft) separated from one another and began to head into the base in order to find Commander Laurette Agryna for extraction. After picking up friendly IFF tags in the distance, the two found themselves in the base's firing range and armory, encountering a Jiralhanae Chieftain handing out salvaged CQS48 Bulldogs and SRS99-AM sniper rifles to his underlings. The two proceeded to engage the Banished troops, with Vesco throwing a grenade into the group followed by a burst of machine gun fire from 'Taar. These collectively took out most of the Banished troops, leaving only the Chieftain and a second Jiralhanae alive, which then attacked Vesco and began trying to claw the Spartan to death. 'Taar fired another burst at the Brute, knocking him off Vesco, but in doing so missed the Chieftain swinging its gravity hammer into a locker and sending it flying into Ovi 'Taar - crushing him. Vesco tried to push the Elite out of the way but was too late, and instead picked up 'Taar's discarded machine gun and used it to fire at the Chieftain. However, it was too little, and the Chieftain engaged Vesco in a melee - leaving Vesco injured before ultimately being driven away by the timely arrival of several Marines led by Commander Agryna. Vesco attempted to tend to a dying 'Taar, though the Elite's injuries were too great.[2]
The UNSC troops brought a now-concussed Vesco to the facility's AI lab, where Vesco explained the intended plan; he could use his locator beacon to call in a dropship and organise an exfiltration for the personnel he had stumbled upon. After some deliberation, Spartans Agryna, Hieu Dinh and Sigrid Eklund agreed to join him, and brought him to the base's landing pad. For the final stretch of the exfiltration, they were escorted by SPARTAN-IIIs Jun-A266 and Rosenda-A344, both of whom had arrived in the extraction Pelican Bravo 198. Once secured, the Pelican lifted away from the academy and brought Vesco to Fearful Symmetry for medical attention, before the frigate retreated to Anvil Station.[2]
Equipment[edit]
Vesco considers himself to have particular skill with carbine-style weaponry.[1] During his deployment to Nysa in 2560, he wielded a Covenant Erudo'ma'keth-pattern pulse carbine.[2]
Personality and traits[edit]
Spartan Vesco has a friendly relationship with Ovi 'Taar, with the two often spending time together outside of their training. The two will often trade jokes with each other, as well as with another human by the name of Jacobs. Vesco has also been known to enjoy drinking hiskal.[1]
