Ovi 'Taar is a Sangheili warrior serving in the Riftborn, a special forces unit of the Swords of Sanghelios. As of 2560, he is a part of the Sangheili complement working in the Anvil Initiative.[2]
Biography[edit]
As of 2560, Ovi 'Taar was one of the many Swords of Sanghelios personnel deployed on Anvil Station as part of the joint-operations task force set up between the Swords and the United Nations Space Command. While on-station, 'Taar was involved in practicing weapons drills and War Games simulation training with the station's SPARTAN-IV complement, in particular Spartan Adrian Vesco. After training, the two frequently relaxed in the bar "Shots Fired" - a name given to the station's Comissary 3 - trading jokes and banter.[2]
On March 3, 2560, 'Taar and Vesco were paired together to deploy as part of a larger expedition launched in response to a distress call originating from the Avery J. Johnson Academy of Military Science on Nysa.[2] They were deployed to the world via the command frigate Sword of Conjunction, arriving in the midst of an ongoing invasion of the planet led by the New Colonial Alliance, a clan within the Banished. The Riftborn aboard Conjunction, including 'Taar and Vesco, were deployed onto the ground via the frigate's Yado-pattern Intrusion Carapaces and began to fight through Banished ground forces with the objective of recovering the base's command staff and if possible, any other survivors. Ultimately, Vesco and 'Taar ended up in the base's armory in close-quarters with a Jiralhanae Chieftain. The Chieftain used his gravity hammer to send a weapons locker flying into 'Taar, crushing and mortally wounding the Sangheili. Pinned down, 'Taar emptied what remained of his magazine into the chieftain, though the fight was ultimately interrupted with the arrival of several UNSC Marines, who finished off the Chieftain. 'Taar died moments later, attempting to tell a joke to Spartan Vesco.[1]
Equipment[edit]
During the battle on Nysa, Ovi 'Taar deployed with a human-made M739 SAW, a light machine gun manufactured by Misriah Armory. His helmet included a tactical eyepiece on his left eye which could be retracted at will and provided the warrior with information on his surroundings, and could record and broadcast a camera feed to his teammate.[1]
