Firing 50mm rounds, the M870 is used for defense against strikecraft and Plasma torpedoes[1]. Charon-class light frigates are equipped with four M870 turrets—two on either side of the hull.[2] The Gladius-class heavy corvette, the Stalwart-class light frigate and the Strident-class heavy frigate are all armed with six M870 turrets each.[1][3][4]
