The Fall of Madrigal[5] was an engagement of the Human-Covenant War in December 2528 on the human Outer Colony of Madrigal in 23 Librae system. The battle ultimately resulted in Madrigal's glassing.[3]

The battle

In December 2528, Covenant forces attacked the human Outer Colony of Madrigal. The United Nations Space Command launched a defensive, battling the invading Covenant military, while human insurgents organized the planet's evacuation. The rebels used their own freighters to evacuate the planet's residents and brought them to a rebel refugee among the asteroids of the nearby Hesiod, a habitable complex known as the Rubble. Although Madrigal had been prepared for a Covenant attack since the loss of Harvest in 2525, the planet's defenses ultimately failed and Madrigal was glassed by the Covenant.[3] Edward Buck and Thel 'Vadamee both participated in the battle.[2][4]

After the battle, the United Nations Space Command withdrew from the system and abandoned Madrigal. The Madrigal residents brought to the Rubble were offered a choice by the occupying insurgents: they could either return to human space and continue to flee from the Covenant, or they could live in the Rubble and establish a civilization hidden from the Covenant and UNSC.[6]
