Free DLC for Halo 5: Guardians.

Downloadable content, or DLC for short, is additional content for use in video games. DLC released for Halo has been distributed in several ways, ranging from disk based, to the internet through services like Xbox LIVE.

Halo 2 DLC[edit]

Due to Xbox LIVE being discontinued for Original Xbox consoles and games, it's no longer possible to get all the Halo 2 DLC that was avaliable though that service.[1]

Bonus Map Pack[edit]

Bonus Map Pack: Released on Xbox Live on April 25, 2005 for free. It contained the maps Containment and Warlock. It is no longer possible to download this DLC through Xbox LIVE.

Game type: Zombies[edit]

Main article: Zombies

Game type: Zombies: Released though the Official Xbox Magazine in Demo disc 45 as a download for Xbox in June, 2005.[2] This is the only official way to get the game type on the Xbox version of the game.

Killtacular Pack[edit]

Killtacular Pack: Released on Xbox LIVE on April 25, 2005 for $4.99, and was made permanently free on June 28, 2005. It contained the maps Sanctuary and Turf. It is no longer possible to download this DLC through Xbox LIVE.

Maptacular Pack[edit]

Maptacular Pack: Released on Xbox LIVE on July 5, 2005 for $11.99, and was made permanently free on August 30, 2005. It contained the maps Gemini, Elongation, Backwash, Relic, and Terminal. It is no longer possible to download this DLC through Xbox LIVE.

Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack[edit]

Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack: Released on disk on July 5, 2005. It included the maps found in the Bonus, Maptacular and Killtacular map packs.

Blastacular Pack[edit]

Blastacular Pack: Released on April 17, 2007 for $4.00, and re-released as an updated package on May 7, 2007 (still for $4.00), as several glitches discovered in the included content had been fixed, and made permanently free on July 7, 2007. It contained the maps Desolation and Tombstone. It is no longer possible to download this DLC through Xbox LIVE.

Halo 3 map packs[edit]

Heroic Map Pack[edit]

Heroic Map Pack: Released on December 11, 2007 for $10.00 (800 Microsoft Points), and was made permanently free on March 25, 2008. It contained the maps Standoff, Rat's Nest, and Foundry.

Legendary Map Pack[edit]

Legendary Map Pack: Released on April 15, 2008 for $10.00 (800 Microsoft Points), and was made permanently free on July 7, 2017. It contained the maps Avalanche, Blackout, and Ghost Town.

Cold Storage[edit]

Cold Storage: Released on July 7, 2008 for free to commemorate Bungie Day. It contained the map Cold Storage.

Mythic Map Pack[edit]

Mythic Map Pack: Released through the Halo Wars: Limited Edition on February 26, 27, and made publicly available on March 3, 2009 for $10.00 (800 Microsoft Points), and made permanently free on July 7, 2017. It contained the maps Assembly, Orbital, and Sandbox.

Mythic II Map Pack[edit]

Mythic Map Pack: Released as part of the Halo 3: Mythic disc that comes bundled with Halo 3: ODST along with all the other map packs on September 22, 2009, and later made separately available on February 2, 2010 for $10.00 (800 Microsoft Points), and made permanently free on July 7, 2017. It contained Citadel, Heretic, and Longshore.

Halo 3: ODST DLC[edit]

Drop Sgt. Johnson into Firefight[edit]

This was a pre-order bonus exclusive to those who pre-ordered the game. It allowed the player to play as Avery Johnson as their Firefight character.[3] With the addition of ODST's Firefight mode to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Sergeant Johnson was made available for use by all players as the last unlock in Series 3: Recon.

Description: Sergeant Avery Junior Johnson is a tough as nails career Marine that has been in more life or death battles than you've had hot meals. He has survived more infectious Flood outbreaks, greased more Covenant bad guys, and in general kicked more alien ass than any twenty other Marines. Now you get to walk a mile in his shoes. If you enlisted early by pre-ordering your copy of Halo 3: ODST at select retailers, redeem your code to unlock Sgt. Johnson for use in Firefight.

Halo Wars DLC[edit]

Unique unit: Fireball Warthog[edit]

This was a pre-order bonus exclusive to those who pre-ordered the game. It changed the color of the Warthog to the Fireball skin, also known as the Spirit of Fire variant.[4] This DLC was later included as part of the Halo Wars: Definitive Edition regardless of whether the user pre-ordered or not.

Unique unit: Honor Guard Wraith[edit]

This was a pre-order bonus exclusive to those who pre-ordered the limited edition of the game. It changed the color of the Wraith to the Honor Guard variant.[5] This DLC was later included as part of the Halo Wars: Definitive Edition regardless of whether the user pre-ordered or not.

Strategic Options Pack[edit]

Three gametypes were released for 800 Microsoft Points on May 19, 2009. It also included four new achievements.

Historic Battle map pack[edit]

The only multiplayer map pack for this game was available for download for 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live, and was released on the July, 21st 2009. It also included four new achievements.

Halo: Reach map packs[edit]

Noble Map Pack[edit]

The Noble Map Pack was the first map pack released for Halo: Reach. It contains 3 new multiplayer maps and 7 new Achievements worth 250 Gamerscore and was released on November 30 for 800 Microsoft Points.

Defiant Map Pack[edit]

The Defiant Map Pack was the second map pack released for Halo: Reach. It contains two new multiplayer maps and one Firefight map. It includes three brand new achievements. It was released on 15 March 2011 for 800 Microsoft Points.

Anniversary Map Pack[edit]

Included with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary and available on the Xbox Live Marketplace for $20.00, comes with seven new maps and achievements. Includes six remade classic multiplayer maps from Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 as well as one new Firefight map.

Halo 4 DLC[edit]

Halo 4 had a number of released DLC. In addition, a number of concepts for another proposed map pack have been released, though the maps were never created.

Armor/Emblem/Skin/Other DLC[edit]

Halo 4 had several items exclusive for several reasons including pre-ordering.

Crimson Map Pack[edit]

The Crimson Map Pack was the first map pack released for Halo 4. It contains three new multiplayer maps and eight new achievements. It was released on December 10, 2012 for 800 Microsoft Points.[Note 1]

Majestic Map Pack[edit]

The Majestic Map Pack was the second map pack released for Halo 4. It contains three new multiplayer maps and ten new achievements. It was released in February 2013 for 800 Microsoft Points.

Castle Map Pack[edit]

The Castle Map Pack was the third map pack released for Halo 4. It contains three new multiplayer maps and nine new achievements. It was released in April 2013 for 800 Microsoft Points.

Forge Island[edit]

This map was released for free on its own, on March 29, 2013.

Champions Bundle[edit]

The Champions Bundle was the fourth content update released for Halo 4. It contains two multiplayer maps, four new sets of armor, a new gametype, and ten new achievements. It was released on August 20 for 800 Microsoft Points.

Halo: Spartan Assault DLC[edit]

Five campaign missions were added as part of a title update on August 29, 2013.

Halo 2: Anniversary DLC[edit]

This map was released for free to Halo: The Master Chief Collection on May 30, 2015.

Halo 5: Guardians content updates[edit]

Battle of Shadow and Light[edit]

Battle of Shadow and Light was the first content update for Halo 5: Guardians. It contained four forge maps and was released on November 18, 2015.

Cartographer's Gift[edit]

Cartographer's Gift was the second content update for Halo 5: Guardians. It contained four maps and was released on December 16, 2015.

Infinity's Armory[edit]

Monitor's Bounty[edit]

Overtime[edit]

Overtime was a free DLC update which includes 7 new commedations, weapon tuning, Xbox One X enhancements, new emblems, weapon skins, the Oddball game mode and the Relic Sword.

Halo Wars 2 DLC[edit]

Sergeant Forge[edit]

Sergeant John Forge was the first DLC leader for Halo Wars 2. He was released during the game's launch for free.

Kinsano[edit]

Morgan Kinsano was the second DLC leader for Halo Wars 2. She was released on March 21, 2017 for $5.99.[Note 2]

Colony[edit]

Colony was the third DLC leader for Halo Wars 2. It was released on April 27, 2017 for $5.99.

Sergeant Johnson[edit]

Sergeant Major Avery Johnson was the fourth DLC leader for Halo Wars 2. He was released on May 22, 2017 for $5.99 alongside two free Blitz maps Nocturne and Sirocco.

Icons of War[edit]

Commander Jerome-092 and Arbiter Ripa 'Moramee were the fifth and sixth DLC leaders for Halo Wars 2. They were released on June 28, 2017 for $9.99 together or $5.99 individually.

Serina and Operation: SPEARBREAKER[edit]

Serina is the seventh leader for Halo Wars 2. She was released alongside Operation: SPEARBREAKER, two campaign missions about a squad of ODSTs. Operation: SPEARBREAKER and Serina were released on July 25, 2017 for $9.99 together or $5.99 individually.

Yapyap the Destroyer[edit]

Yapyap the Destroyer is the eighth leader for Halo Wars 2. He was released on August 17, 2017 for $5.99.

Awakening the Nightmare[edit]

Main article: Halo Wars 2: Awakening the Nightmare

A DLC campaign featuring the Banished fighting the Flood after the events of Halo Wars 2. Includes the two Jiralhanae leaders Pavium and Voridus, a campaign, two multiplayer maps, and Terminus Firefight. It was released on September 26, 2017 for $19.99.
