Adjunct

From Halopedia, the Halo wiki

Adjuncts are sections found in the re-releases of various Halo novels. They typically contain short stories and excerpts of text from within the Halo universe that expand upon the story depicted in the main novel to flesh out its characters, themes, and events. Some adjunct stories contain more traditional narrative storytelling, while others may be excerpts of in-universe documents or transcripts.

A few later novels contain an adjunct section in their original release that serves as a coda with additional information on the novel's events from a different perspective.

List of adjuncts[edit]

Halo: The Fall of Reach[edit]

The 2010 reissue of Halo: The Fall of Reach was the first book to contain adjuncts. Its stories depict the Fall of Reach from a variety of points-of-view, and work alongside the Data Drops released on Halo Waypoint to reconcile the canonical differences between The Fall of Reach and the game Halo: Reach.

Halo: The Flood[edit]

The 2010 reissue of Halo: The Flood also contained an adjunct section, with most of its stories focusing on fleshing out the events of Halo: Combat Evolved and the Battle of Installation 04. These include further looks into how the conflict was viewed by the Covenant, UNSC Marines, and Flood.

  • A priority broadcast log of the activities of the Fleet of Particular Justice during the Battle of Installation 04, sent to Lak 'Vadamee by Thel 'Vadamee.
  • An audio transcript of an emergency broadcast recorded by a panicked Flood survivor on Alpha Halo, heavily redacted and under analysis by ONI.
  • "Hunger", a short story written from the perspective of a pod infector on Installation 04 and its human victim.
  • Excerpts from the journal of Zuka 'Zamamee while aboard the Truth and Reconciliation.
  • A private status report by 343 Guilty Spark after the outbreak of the Flood on Alpha Halo.
  • A status report filed by the Librarian on the progress of her categorization of life on Earth, presented as a Terminal transcript.

Halo: First Strike[edit]

The 2010 reissue of Halo: First Strike contained an adjunct section, though its story focuses were not as tightly focused on the book's events as those of Fall of Reach and The Flood.

Halo: Shadows of Reach[edit]

Special Wal-Mart releases of Halo: Shadows of Reach in 2020 contained an adjunct with a single short story, Sacrifice.[1] The story was later officially released online as a free PDF download.[2]

Halo: Battle Born[edit]

The 2024 reissue of Halo: Battle Born featured an adjunct section containing two stories focused on fleshing out the history of Meridian and Fireteam Osiris' deployment to the planet from Halo 5: Guardians.[3]

Halo: Meridian Divide[edit]

The 2024 reissue of Halo: Meridian Divide contained an adjunct section featuring a single short story, Meridian Homecoming, depicting Governor Sloan's return to Meridian after the events of Halo Infinite.[4]

Halo: Outcasts[edit]

Halo: Outcasts has an adjunct section where Nothing is shown directing the native Chynndokahli to gather their people in a temple, so that they could use the Precursor superweapon the Divine Hand to fire upon and destroy the Guardian Custode approaching Netherop.

This adjunct shows the Precursors' perspective of the events surrounding the ancient firing of the superweapon seen in the novel which had rendered Netherop nearly uninhabitable.

Halo: Empty Throne[edit]

Halo: Empty Throne features an adjunct section where Forthencho is shown watching the Battle of Boundary via neural transmission before returning to the Domain where Forthencho watches the sunrise with the Ur-Didact.

This adjunct provides more detail on the effects of the UNSC Victory of Samothrace's destruction of the Boundary Lithos. It also ties into the events of Halo: Epitaph, namely the alliance between the Forerunners and the Ancestors in the Domain to protect it and the peaceful resolution of the personal conflict between the legendary Promethean and the Lord of Admirals.

Halo: Edge of Dawn[edit]

The 2025 novel Halo: Edge of Dawn contains an adjunct section featuring a single short poem, Harbinger's Lament, describing the history of the Xalanyn from the Harbinger's perspective.

Halo: The Master Chief Omnibus[edit]

The 2026 print anthology collection Halo: The Master Chief Omnibus is set to compile updated editions of The Fall of Reach, The Flood, and First Strike, with a new adjunct section included with additional short content to flesh out those stories.[5]
