Steaktacular Halo 3 Medal Icon

The Steaktacular Medal is a multiplayer medal awarded in Halo 3, Halo: Reach, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Halo Infinite. In Halo 3 and The Master Chief Collection a Steaktacular is earned and achieved by winning a slayer match with at least 20 kills more than the opposing team. In Halo: Reach, it is awarded to the winning team of an online matchmaking game if the losing team's score is less than 60% of the winning team's score, and the score to win is at least 50.

In its first two appearances, the medal was only awarded for online matchmaking games and was a Bungie.net exclusive medal, meaning that it did not actually appear in-game and could only be viewed in the player's medal chest on the site.[1] In The Master Chief Collection it appears in-game for the first time, is also available in custom games, and can be earned in all five versions of multiplayer. The medal's description on Bungie.net, 'Luke owes you a steak dinner.', comes from a Bungie Hump Day Challenge in which Luke Smith bet 'a fantastic steak dinner at a real classy joint' that he could beat another team, led by Frankie, by at least 20 points. Luke's team won 50-21. Another match was played for bragging rights, and they again won, this time by a margin of 50-27.[2]

On March 31, 2012 Bungie.net ceased updating Halo game stats and player records, transferring all record-keeping responsibilities to Halo Waypoint.[3] As Halo 3 and Halo: Reach Steaktacular medals could only be viewed on the site, it is effectively no longer awarded in those games.

Trivia

  • Upon ending statistical updates, Bungie calculated that 382,330,491 medals had been awarded in Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST. With an average steak of 12 ounces, this equates to 490,167 cows required to satisfy the debt.[4]
  • In The Master Chief Collection, the medal's description incorrectly specifies it can be unlocked in a "matchmade slayer game", despite the fact that it is also awarded in custom games. It also states that the medal can be earned in Halo 3 matches, but in reality it is not.
