In Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2, the main character controlled by the player is a leader. Each leader is unique, granting the player access to leader-specific units, hero units, and leader powers.

Leader Powers[edit]

Main article: Leader power

Leader powers are abilities accessible through the leader power menu during gameplay. Leader powers can provide offensive, defensive and support utility or alter the battlefield in the user's favor. Leader powers cost resources to use and have a cooldown period before they can be used again. In Halo Wars 2, leader powers can be upgraded by spending leader points which are earned through gameplay.

Units[edit]

The individual characters controlled by the player in RTS titles are Units, which are divided into three categories: infantry, ground vehicles, and air units. Each category has its own strengths and weaknesses: air units are effective against ground vehicles, ground vehicles are effective against infantry, and infantry is effective against air units. Not all units abide by this rule. For example, the Wolverine specializes in fighting aircraft despite being a ground vehicle.
