Serpent Mgalekgolos are a type of Mgalekgolo colony that serves as a mini-boss in Warzone.[1]

History[edit]

Serpent Hunters were used in Jul 'Mdama's Covenant as a specialized Hunter unit known for their red armor, they are a high tier version of the normal Hunter having more armor and a heavier Assault cannon. The name "Serpent Hunter" and the species' official designation, Ophis congregatio (Latin for "serpent union"), both reflect the Lekgolo, the orange, worm-like creatures that compose a Hunter. This variant was exclusively deployed by Jul 'Mdama's Covenant. Unlike many Mgalekgolo, which remained neutral during the Great Schism, these Hunters remained loyal to Jul's cause, continuing the fight against humanity and the Swords of Sanghelios.[2] These Hunters were encountered as AI-controlled enemies in the Warzone multiplayer mode like other enemies they were used to train SPARTAN-IVs.[3]

Gameplay[edit]

Many of the higher-tier Mgalekgolo, including the Serpent Hunter, appear as simulated enemies in the UNSC War Games and Warzone Firefight. Their presence in these simulations implies that the UNSC has studied and profiled these enemy variants. Serpent Hunters will spawn on the March on Stormbreak map at the loading bays on both sides of the map.[4] The Hunter also has a chance to spawn in certain Warzone Firefight simulations, as a standard, legendary or mythic boss. Some are similar to normal Mgalekgolo though some take the appearance of a normal red boss Hunter. In-game, the Serpent Hunters are visually distinct, representing a more dangerous and durable enemy compared to standard Hunters. Their superior capabilities are a result of being a more complex or specialized Lekgolo gestalt. Since different Lekgolo gestalts have different purposes, it is possible that Serpent Hunters represent a specific formation. This could mean they are bred for certain environments or tasks, or contain a higher number of worms to increase intelligence and combat prowess.[5]
