The Mgalekgolo Elder is a heavy Mgalekgolo unit within Jul 'Mdama's Covenant similar to Mgalekgolo Swarmlords.[1]
History[edit]
The Elder is a specialized rank for Hunters in Jul 'Mdama's Covenant. Its name suggests that they are based on Hunters that have survived a considerable number of combat encounters or given to the best of the hunter troopers possible commanding and leading Covenant into battle.[2] The rank was most likely formed in 2558 ,though most likely called something else, when Jul 'Mdama captured Dr Halsey to access the Janus Key and other Forerunner technology for the benefits of his Covenant and his war against the Arbiter and the Swords of Sanghelios and for other skirmishes involving Jul's Covenant in the Cortana Event. Aside from Jul's arsenal, Elders were used primarily in Warzone simulations as a heavy boss unit to train SPARTAN-IVs.[1]
Description[edit]
Like many specialized Mgalekgolo they consist of red armor an Assault cannon and a heavy shield with variations from other Hunter armors such as the ones from Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 3 and Halo Infinite, however their mythic variant, the more well known appearance of an Elder, consists of white armor and heavy Assault cannon similar in appearance to Swarmlords or an Ultra in Ke 'Nzahz's Evocati or other Remnant.[3]

Halo 5: Guardians[edit]
Elders spawn on Raid on Apex 7 at the spire on each side of the map with twice as health, damage and durablility as a normal Hunter. Hunter Elders are the first boss encountered by the player and must be eliminated before the spire can be taken. they also spawn in certain Warzone simulations as mythic bosses.[citation needed]
