Leader power
From Halopedia, the Halo wiki
Leader Powers are a gameplay mechanic in Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2. They act as special abilities that can be called in by the player, generally framed as support provided from orbit by a warship in space. They offer a range of abilities, some of which serve to disrupt or alter the battlefield, while others are direct attacks on enemy forces.
Halo Wars[edit]
In Halo Wars Leader Powers can be accessed by pressing up on the D-Pad on controller. They differ greatly depending on which faction and leader is being played.
UNSC Leader Powers[edit]
For UNSC players, Leader Powers can be accessed from the radial menu; each leader has an identical suite of shared Leader Powers alongside one power exclusive to them (or, in the case of Captain Cutter, two). Each leader has a unique direct attack on enemy forces and shared support abilities, with the direct attack being able to be upgraded in the Field Armory for increased effectiveness. Each can be upgraded three times up to a tier of IV, increasing their damage,
cost to use, and cooldown time.
Unique to Cutter is the ability to call in Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, which can only be accessed by upgrading the Marines to their final upgrade tier in the Barracks.
| Name | Leader | Cost | Description | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tech | Resources | |||
| MAC Blast | Captain Cutter | Use Spirit of Fire's awesome Mass Accelerated Cannons to incinerate enemy troops. | ||
| ODST Drop | Drops an ODST squad at the target location. | |||
| Carpet Bomb | Sergeant Forge | Use the UNSC Shortsword Bomber to devastate a strip of land with massive bombs. | ||
| Cryo Bomb | Professor Anders | Use the UNSC Shortsword Bomber to drop Cryo Bombs in an area, freezing all things for a short time. | ||
| Disruption Bomb | All UNSC | Disrupts existing Leader Powers and prevents new Leader Powers from being initiated in a small area for 1 minute. | ||
| Heal and Repair | Heal any units and repair any buildings in an area. | |||
| Pelican Transport | Call in Pelicans to transport a small group of units from one place to another. | |||

Halo Wars 2[edit]
In Halo Wars 2, Leader Powers were revamped and equalised across the board. Rather than the distinct methods of operation used by each faction in the first game, all UNSC and Banished leaders now have a complete roster of ten unique Leader Powers accessed using a radial menu like the first game. Unlocking Leader Powers is a gradual process: throughout the game the player earns XP from engaging in combat and construction, which eventually leads to the accumulation of
Leader Points. A Leader Point can be used to unlock (or in some cases, upgrade) a power.
At the start of the game, two Leader Powers are available for unlock, and each player is given one
. Every time a
is used, a further two Leader Powers are made available for purchase. If the game lasts long enough, all Leader Powers can be unlocked and upgraded to their highest tiers.
