Part of Halo Waypoint Chronicles

Halo: London Calling is a short story in the Waypoint Chronicle series written by Jeff Easterling and Alex Wakeford. Unlike previous entries in the series, London Calling is exclusively included in the print compilation Halo: Waypoint Chronicles - Volume One, set for release on May 26, 2026. The story is set to cover Laurette Agryna and her background and life in London prior to the SPARTAN-IV program, something first depicted in the Season 01 introductory video for Halo Infinite.[2]

Official summary[edit]

"October 2552. The Covenant invasion of Earth has come to London. As the alien alliance relentlessly assaults humanity’s military infrastructure, civilian courier groups—such as the Beekeepers, run by Laurette and her father Holden Agryna—are contracted to aid the off-world transportation of key personnel and assets.[2]"

Plot synopsis[edit]

On October 22, 2552, Laurette Agryna's dying father Holden gives her his pendant to be delivered to a contact of his at Waterloo Station along with a message that the man still owes Holden twenty quid. Amidst the chaos of the Battle for Earth, the Office of Naval Intelligence had contacted Holden to smuggle a classified package out of the city, his courier service the Beekeepers being ideal to "slip through the net" of the Covenant invasion despite Holden living off of the grid to get away from ONI. Holden and his daughter had been trying to make their way through the "upper city" by leaping from building to building, but were caught in an explosion when a Covenant dropship fired on the skyscraper that they were traveling through.

Left to finish the job by herself, Agryna descends to the ground where she is confused to see Jiralhanae dragging someone who isn't human. A UNSC squad shoots down a Phantom, but Agryna presses on, ignoring the Covenant survivors beyond flipping them off, and the UNSC troops. Agryna is forced to hide from a Jiralhanae pack coming to investigate the downed dropship where she encounters a Sangheili who is also hiding. To Agryna's surprise, the Sangheili simply signals her to be quiet, but they are found by a Jiralhanae who sadistically tears the Sangheili limb from limb, providing a distraction for Agryna to continue on. Attempting to sneak across Westminster Bridge, the strap of Agryna's bag gets caught on the treads of a wrecked Scorpion and breaks.

As a pack of six Jiralhanae closes in on her, Agryna is suddenly saved by a UNSC drop pod landing right in front of her followed by three others. Each pod carries a Spartan from the Delta-6 Division and the fireteam quickly eliminates the Covenant forces. The leader, Evelyn Rousseau, confirms that Agryna has the package while Dorian Nguyen suffers two Spiker rounds to the leg. As Victor Gallardo supports Dorian, Saskia Nazari calls for exfiltration and Evie explains that Holden's pendant contained a hidden tracking device that had led the Spartans to Agryna.

As dawn rises, the fighting in London seems to have ceased for the time being and UNSC Medical Corps transports move in to help the injured while firefighting teams set to work extinguishing the raging fires throughout the city. However, it is only a matter of time before the Covenant regroup, strike again harder than before and bring a fleet of reinforcements to glass the planet.

On the roof of Waterloo Station, Agryna and the Spartans rendezvous with the Pale Horse from which their commanding officer, a Sergeant Major, emerges in power armor far older than the Spartans' sleek MJOLNIR armor. Agryna is unable to tell if the man is a Spartan or some other kind of super soldier, but recognizes the Shoulder Angel as something that her father possessed from days that he had never liked to talk about. From Agryna's bag, the CO removes a box with a javelin insignia on it possibly large enough to hold a data crystal chip.

The CO announces that Project OUROBOROS is underway and key personnel are being evacuated to the Oort cloud, meaning they need to get off of the planet. Dorian objects and while the CO doesn't like it any better than him, there is always a bigger picture. The Spartans file onto the ship while Agryna, realizing that this must be her father's contact, passes on Holden's message. Removing his helmet, the CO wistfully recalls serving with Holden during Operation: TREBUCHET where Holden had always insisted that he looked better in the armor than the other man. The CO offers Agryna a choice to stay in London or to come with him, warning that it was a death sentence either way as official records will mark them as killed in action where they are going. Agyrna agrees to the offer and the CO welcomes her aboard, introducing himself as Nolan Byrne.
