The Sniper Rifle is a weapon featured in Halo: Combat Evolved and its remaster, Combat Evolved Anniversary. It is one of the most powerful weapons throughout the game, and has since gone on to appear in nearly all subsequent games in the series.

Information on the Sniper Rifle found in Halo: Campaign Evolved can be found here.

Universe and lore[edit]

Main article: SRS99C-S2 AM sniper rifle

In the original Combat Evolved, the Sniper Rifle featured is the SRS99C-S2 AM sniper rifle, a 14.5×114mm anti-materiel rifle in the SRS99 series utilised by the UNSC Marine Corps and UNSC Navy.[2][3][4]

In Anniversary, the weapon's model was replaced with that of the SRS99-AM sniper rifle from Halo: Reach, with in-game materials having updated to refer to it accordingly.

The Sniper Rifle is notably introduced in Halo during the third campaign level, The Truth and Reconciliation. In this mission the Sniper is the player's starting weapon and notably holds much more ammunition than usual (64 rounds, to the regular game's 24) - with the downside of having no ammunition refills available for the weapon at any point in the mission. In Anniversary and The Master Chief Collection, an achievement is awarded for completing the level with at least four rounds left in the weapon. Elsewhere the weapon can be found on the level Assault on the Control Room (including one instance notably held by Sergeant Johnson, Two Betrayals and Keyes.

The Sniper Rifle is one of two weapons in the game (alongside the Pistol) capable of performing a headshot, notably making it one of two weapons able to reliably kill a Hunter in one hit.

Changes from Halo: Combat Evolved to Halo PC, Halo: Custom Edition, and Halo: Anniversary[edit]

  • Maximum telescopic zoom reduced from 10× to 8× (This change was carried over from international releases of Halo: Combat Evolved and is a visual only change. It does not affect the sniper's performance in any way).

Changes from Halo: CEA to Halo: The Master Chief Collection[edit]

  • Reduced the size of the Anniversary graphics reticle.
  • Maximum telescopic zoom reverted back from 8× to 10×.
