The Sniper Rifle is first seen in the Halo 2 campaign level Outskirts. At the start of the level one is held by Sergeant Johnson and can be traded to the player or left for him to use. Numerous other rifles can be found throughout the mission by exploiting tricks to leave the map and access hidden areas. They are later provided for use on the levels Delta Halo and Regret.

The Sniper Rifle is featured in the Another Day at the Beach cutscene included on the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack disc. In the short, the ODST Walpole uses one to take out a Jackal Sniper.
