8-bit Beats for Saving the Universe is one of several official soundtrack releases as part of the music of Halo Infinite. The soundtrack consists of 8-bit renditions of select tracks from the Halo Infinite Original Soundtrack that can be heard throughout the game, usually as Easter eggs.[2]
Overview[edit]
Composition[edit]
Joel Corelitz[2] composed chiptune renditions of tracks featured in Halo Infinite's campaign component:
- Road Tested is a cover of the track The Road, the game's iteration of the Halo Theme's string melody.
- Zeta Fragment is a cover of the track Zeta Halo, the game's iteration of the Halo Theme's Gregorian chant.
- Digital Daskalo is a cover of the track Escharum.
- Polygon Trees is a cover of the track Through the Trees.
- Endless Space is a cover of the track Endless.
- Demon Space is a cover of the track Know My Legend.
Release[edit]
The chiptune tracks can be heard throughout Halo Infinite as Easter eggs. In the campaign's open world, the giant sandwich Easter egg can be found in a cave nearby the Reformation Spire where the mission Spire takes place, wherein all six tracks of the album play.[3]
A Halo Infinite arcade cabinet can be found within the Arcade Game Zone in the multiplayer map Streets. Road Tested, Zeta Fragment, and Demon Space can be heard from the machine, alongside other miscellaneous tunes and sound effects.[4] The Game Zone arcade cabinet can also be found in the campaign's open world, inside a small Forerunner chamber just south of Outpost Tremonius. Unlike the cabinet from Streets, the secret cabinet in Outpost Tremonius plays all six tracks, including Digital Daskalo, Polygon Trees, and Endless Space.[5]
The three tracks that can be heard in Streets were released onto YouTube on August 23, 2023 as a last-minute promotion for the Cyber Showdown II multiplayer event of Season 04: Infection, aligning with the event's 1980s-synthwave theme.[6]
All six tracks were added to Forge alongside the rest of Halo Infinite's campaign music under the 8-Bit category with the release of the July Update on July 30, 2024.[7] Within Forge, they are labelled and listed as:
- 8-Bit Covenant Theme (Demon Space)
- 8-Bit Endless Theme (Endless Space)
- 8-Bit Escharum Theme (Digital Daskalo)
- 8-Bit Monk Theme (Zeta Fragment)
- 8-Bit Through the Trees (Polygon Trees)
- 8-Bit Warthog Run (Road Tested)
Packaged as 8-bit Beats for Saving the Universe, the tracks were released onto streaming platforms on July 31, 2025.[8]
