The Eeo'Pimu-pattern Gun Pod,[1] designated the Type-27 Anti-Infantry Stationary Gun (T-27 ASG) by the UNSC, is a Covenant anti-infantry gun turret and one of several turret models commonly identified as Shades.[2] It was the lightest, most portable Shade variants fielded by the Covenant, having been developed for special forces and select fleets operating under Hierarch mandate.[1] After the Human-Covenant War, many human insurrectionist groups got hold of numerous Type-27 Shades.[3]

Design details

The T-27 ASG is made up of the turret with a frontal plasma shield on top of an anti-gravity mount, making it the only Shade variant with a plasma shield. It is also more portable than the other variants.[4] The Type-27 Shade was primarily developed for Covenant Special Operations units, although it is accessible enough to be self-deployed and manned by Unggoy. The rapid-fire plasma cannon that is equipped on the Type-27 is similar to the heavy plasma cannon employed by Type-52 Phantoms.[3]

Tactics

  • The frontal plasma shield is very effective in protecting the gunner from projectile fire, so throw plasma grenades to destroy it.
  • When an Elite mans the turret, its head can be seen protruding above the plasma shield. Use a scoped weapon to take it out by headshots.
  • In the beginning section of the level Delta Halo, use the Shades scattered around in the area to take down the approaching Phantom's plasma cannons as well as the deployed Covenant infantry.

Trivia

Halo 2 multiplayer maps that have Shade turrets, such as Headlong and Zanzibar, sometimes have M247 General Purpose Machine Guns replacing them instead.
