— Captain Abigail Cole relaying UNSC Plateau's fate to Admiral Serin Osman.[3]

UNSC Plateau was a frigate warship in service of the United Nations Space Command Navy in the post-war era.[1] Around October 2558, the vessel was assigned to the defence of Earth,[1] presumably as part of the UNSC Home Fleet, when the planet came under attack by the Created. Ultimately, the ship was shot down by a Guardian Custode, impacting in Sydney and destroying the entire city in the resulting blast.[2]

Service history[edit]

Main article: Created uprising

On October 28, 2558, UNSC Plateau was stationed in the lower atmosphere of Earth, over Sydney - the capital city of the Unified Earth Government and home to the UNSC military headquarters - when the planet came under attack by the Created. The attack began with the arrival of a Guardian over the city, prompting an immediate response by Plateau and the other UNSC forces in the region. The frigate attempted to destroy the Guardian by firing a pair of Magnetic Accelerator Cannon (MAC) rounds at it, though these proved ineffective. In response, the Guardian fired its attenuation pulse emitter, unleashing a multi-vector electromagnetic pulse and cyberattack which caused all of the aerospace craft flying over Sydney-including the Plateau-to drop from the sky.[1]

Almost immediately, Plateau began to list to one side and dropped to the ground,[1][2] leading to the detonation of its fusion reactor which in turn, destroyed the entire city.[2][3][4][5]

At the moment Plateau dropped from the sky, a prowler ferrying Admiral Serin Osman jumped into slipstream space headed towards a secret fallback world, narrowly averting the catastrophe. Upon reviewing the available footage from the attack, Osman correctly surmised that if the ship's engine core had detonated on impact with the ground below, then Sydney would be nothing but a crater and millions would be dead.[1]
