The Battle of Asmara was an engagement on the human colony of Asmara early in the Human-Covenant War.[2] It ended in a Covenant victory and the glassing of the planet.[1]

The Battle[edit]

The fighting on Asmara is noted to have been particularly brutal, with Gage Yevgenny's fireteam of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers seeing some of the worst of the conflict. At one point in the battle, Mason and ten other ODSTs were killed by a energy sword-wielding Elite before Yevgenny stopped its rampage with a near point-blank shot from a rocket launcher.[2]

Ultimately, the United Nations Space Command's efforts to defend Asmara proved futile, and the planet was glassed. The Assembly reported that Asmara had been lost prior to the beginning of 2530.[1][Note 2]

List of appearances[edit]

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ The Battle of Asmara is noted as occurring after the Battle of Hat Yai, which occurred in late 2528 or 2529, and the Halo: Reach data pads assert that the planet had been glassed by the start of 2530.
  2. ^ The Halo: Reach data pads list Asmara as among the eight human colonies to have been glassed by 2530. However, as numerous other colonies besides those eight are known to have been glassed prior to 2530, this information is suspect, especially given that the information is from in-universe documentation created by the Assembly, which might not be aware of the other colonies' destruction.
