Truth and Reconciliation Suite is the second track included in the Halo: Original Soundtrack. It is composed of four untitled movements: a “reveal theme” (0:00-1:50), a variation of the Halo Theme string melody (1:52-4:48), an ambiance medley (4:49-7:14) and a rock remix of the Halo Theme (7:15-8:25).
Overview
Reveal theme
The “reveal theme” (1:50) [1] opens with vocals and synth ambiance, followed by a triumphant brass fanfare accompanied by low strings playing the triplet rhythm from the Halo Theme. Strings, vocals and synth then take over with a serene and tranquil melody. They fade out and the piece end with a drumroll.
While the fanfare plays in the campaign level Halo at the opening of the chapter “Reunion Tour”, the serene melody does not play in-game.
The piece was fully arranged into Reconciled (from Behold a Pale Horse in Halo 3: Original Soundtrack.
Halo Theme Gregorian chant variation
A variation of the Gregorian chant from the Halo Theme (0:25) features vocals singing notes from the key of the Halo Theme.
It plays in the campaign level The Truth and Reconciliation, during the cinematic in which Jacob Keyes is rescued, when Cortana talks about Halo possessing a religious significance to the Covenant.
The piece was given a new rendition that was incorporated into the opening moments of the music played in the Warthog run during the Halo 3 campaign level Halo, though it was omitted from Greatest Journey, the corresponding track from the soundtrack. The piece, along with the following section, was also arranged into Opening Suite 1 in Halo: Legends Original Soundtrack.
Halo Theme Gregorian chant excerpt
The excerpt of the Gregorian chant from the Halo Theme (0:29) features the four phrases of Halo Theme Gregorian chant. It plays in the main menu of Halo: Combat Evolved.
This section, along with the previous section, was arranged into Opening Suite 1 in Halo: Legends Original Soundtrack.
Space theme
The space theme (2:26) features low and high strings playing a suspenseful melody. The piece first plays in the opening cinematic of the campaign level The Pillar of Autumn. It then plays again during the campaign level Two Betrayals, while John-117 is flying a Type-26 Banshee to the second phase pulse generator.
The piece was arranged into Cold Blue Light (from the track Cairo Suite), with a short reprise as Penance (from the track Delta Halo Suite), in Halo 2: Original Soundtrack, the former of which also plays in the Epilogue/credits of Halo: Reach in place of Opening Suite when recreating the opening scene of Halo: Combat Evolved. Cold Blue Light was then arranged into Only a Star, Only the Sea in Halo 2: Anniversary Original Soundtrack.
The space theme's melody was also featured in the tracks Opening Suite 2, Cairo Suite 1 and Delta Halo in Halo: Legends Original Soundtrack. For Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, a full arrangement of the theme was featured in the track Random Slipspace Trajectory, and then incorporated into the ending of the track Unreliable Exploration. The string melody, along with elements of the Halo 3 track Luck was incorporated into the opening section of Osiris Suite, Act 1 in Halo 5: Guardians Original Soundtrack.
