Lament for Pvt. Jenkins is the twelfth track in Halo: Original Soundtrack.
Overview[edit]
The piece is a tense, moody ambiance piece by string orchestra. The piece opens with a dark, powerful drumbeat, followed by an apprehensive minor chord. Every seven seconds, the drum sounds again, punctuating a change in the chord. The ambiance becomes increasingly disjointed towards the end, featuring the scrambled high notes typical of the Flood, and slowly fades out, leaving a dark air to the scene. The piece is arranged into A Private Service in the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary: Original Soundtrack.
Appearances[edit]
It can be heard:
- In the level The Silent Cartographer, when Bravo 022 gives a mayday call.
- During the cutscene in 343 Guilty Spark where John-117 watches the video feed from Jenkins' helmet.
- It can be heard for a second time in 343 Guilty Spark if the player tries to take the elevator they used to enter the containment facility.
- In the level Keyes, it is heard when John-117 discovers that Captain Keyes was assimilated into the Proto-Gravemind.
- In the beginning of Halo: Last One Standing of the Halo: Landfall series, when T. Rymann deviates from the mission's original course to find a medic for the injured S. Hartley.
Trivia[edit]
The name is derived from John-117 witnessing the horrible fates of Jenkins, Bisenti, Mendoza, and the rest of Johnson's squad at the Flood containment facility.
