Gravity is the second track on Volume 2 of the Halo 4: Original Soundtrack.

Overview[edit]

The piece commences with deep, resonant rumbles, likely from low strings and perhaps synthesisers, establishing an immediate sense of gravitas and anticipation. Majestic brass, particularly horns, then cut in, unveiling a broad and powerful main theme. This theme develops, growing in richness and intensity as more orchestral layers, including sweeping strings, join the fray.

A brighter, more incisive heroic fanfare emerges, often spearheaded by the trumpets, injecting a surge of energy and valour. The pace quickens, driven by insistent percussion—notably snare drum and timpani—and driving string ostinatos, creating a palpable sense of urgent action and mounting tension. The main thematic material returns, now imbued with even greater force and assertiveness. This section builds impressively, culminating in a grand, sustained statement primarily from the full brass section, underpinned by powerful string figures.

A shift occurs, introducing a soaring, emotionally resonant melody, carried aloft by high strings and horns, offering a moment of poignant heroism amidst the intensity. The earlier action-oriented motifs then resurge with renewed vigour, driving relentlessly towards an immense, bombastic climax. Here, the entire orchestra unleashes its full power with monumental chords and thunderous percussion. The piece concludes with a series of emphatic, final chords that gradually fade, leaving a lingering echo of its epic scale.
