Majestic is the twentieth and last track on Volume 2 of the Halo 4: Original Soundtrack.

Overview[edit]

The track begins with a deep, sustained drone, choir-like pads and subtle, unsettling rhythmic scrape-like percussion, establishing an immediate atmosphere of vast mystery and foreboding. Choir-like, ethereal textures rise, introducing electronic bell-like tesctures, with strings and prominent snare rolls, giving an almost introspective quality.

A delicate, arpeggiated melody emerges, played by strings, presumably pizzicato, soon joined by crystalline, rumbling-like percussion, introducing a fragile, almost magical sense of hope against the persistent low drones. When it dissolves, snare rolls return, allowing for solo cello to enter, carrying the main theme, To Galaxy leitmotif, slowly rising, with a sense of melancholy and introspection, lyrical strings soon join and quickly then take the lead, swelling with rich emotion and building a sense of dawning grandeur and yearning. Brass begin to weave in, adding a noble quality as the strings continue their ascent, driving towards an anticipatory crescendo.

Suddenly, the piece erupts into a powerful heroic fanfare, led by the full brass section and propelled by energetic percussion and driving string ostinatos, boldly declaring a the uplifting version of the main theme. This heroic statement intensifies, with more pronounced brass stabs and relentless percussion, creating a feeling of escalating action and urgent tension, culminating in a powerful, almost battle-cry like rhythmic motif.

The music then swells to its peak, stating the main theme in its most sweeping and triumphant iteration—fast, soaring brass, strong string ostinatos—all leading to its grandest climax—with strong percussion breaking through, the full orchestra unleashes its full power—soaring strings, powerful brass chords, and crashing cymbals, all contributing to a driving rhythm, the iconic Halo Theme itself, solidifying the action and heroism. This powerful statement provides a definitive and satisfying resolution, ending on a strong, sustained final chord and a decisive percussive hit.
