The Plasma Grenade is a grenade weapon featured in Halo 2 and its remaster, Halo 2: Anniversary. It is the standard grenade used by Covenant troops.

This page focuses on the Plasma Grenade found in the original Halo 2 game and the campaign of Anniversary. Information on the Plasma Grenade found in the multiplayer component of Halo 2: Anniversary can be found here.

Universe and lore[edit]

Main article: Anskum-pattern plasma grenade

In the original Halo 2, the grenade featured is the Anskum-pattern plasma grenade,[2] otherwise known to the UNSC as the Type-1 Antipersonnel Grenade.

In Anniversary, the weapon's model was replaced with a completely new model derived from the Blur Studio high-fidelity model used for the game's prerendered cutscenes. This design is itself based on the Halo 4 iteration of the grenade.

Campaign[edit]

The Plasma Grenade is commonly encountered throughout the campaign of Halo 2. Unlike the Frag Grenade, the Plasma Grenade is able to stick to enemies when thrown. This is especially useful against Grunts, as sticking one Grunt with the plasma grenade will cause it to run to its friends for help, resulting in the grenade's explosion killing more troops. The grenades do not stick to surfaces however, and will instead bounce off environmental geometry. After either sticking or bouncing, the grenade has a fuse of three seconds before detonation, giving ample time to jump out of the way.

On all Arbiter levels except for players will start with 4 Plasma Grenades save for Uprising, which starts players with no grenades. In addition, when playing as Master Chief on the level High Charity the player spawns with 4 Plasma Grenades.

A number of skulls affect the Plasma Grenade.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection/Halo 2: Anniversary
  • The Bandanna skull grants the player infinite grenades and ammunition.
  • The Boom skull doubles the grenades' explosion radius.
  • The Piñata skull makes all enemies drop Plasma Grenades when melee'd.

Multiplayer[edit]

Plasma Grenades can be found as map pickups in most multiplayer maps and modes in Halo 2. They can be added as loadout weapons in custom games, though otherwise perform the same as their campaign counterparts.
