The Brute Plasma Rifle is a weapon featured in Halo 2 and its remaster, Halo 2: Anniversary.

This page focuses on the Brute Plasma Rifle found in the original Halo 2 game and the campaign of Anniversary. Information on the Plasma Rifle found in the multiplayer component of Halo 2: Anniversary can be found here.

Universe and lore[edit]

Main article: Kewu R'shi'k-pattern plasma rifle

The Kewu R'shi'k-pattern plasma rifle is a more aggressive variant of the standard plasma rifle developed by the Sacred Promissory for issue to Brute warriors. In Halo 2: Anniversary the weapon's model is that of the Plasma rifle from Halo: Reach, albeit with a red tint.[2]

Gameplay[edit]

Counterparts[edit]

Campaign[edit]

In the campaign of Halo 2 the Brute Plasma Rifle only becomes available in the level Gravemind, near the end of the game, after which point it is available in every level. It is exclusively wielded by Brutes alongside their Brute Shots and Carbines.

Befitting the Brutes' aggressive nature, the weapon has a faster rate-of-fire and time-to-overheat than the standard Plasma Rifle. As with the regular Plasma Rifle the weapon can be dual wielded.

Notes[edit]

  1. ^ Due to the way the engine is programmed, the damage lower bound is only reached when both dual weapons are fired during the same frame. Damage otherwise appears to be interpolated between upper and lower values.
  2. ^ 1.0 represents the damage upper bound of 10 and 0.0 represents the damage lower bound of 6. Dual wielding lowers damage to 75% of the distance from 6 to 10. Final damage should be 9 (see above note for bugs).
  3. ^ Projectile is flagged "faster when owned by player", which scales the velocity by difficulty when held by an NPC, and by x1.5 when held by a player. Final player velocity is 21 wu/s.
  4. ^ Due to how tickrate is rounded down, the initial and final firerates are actually 7.5 and 10 rounds per second, rather than 8 and 11 respectively.
  5. ^ Due to Halo 2 Vista's increased tickrate, firerate increases to ~8.6 rounds per second before reaching the final rate of fire of 11 (rounded down to 10). This oversight was patched in Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
  6. ^ Dual wield spread penalty is only active while both weapons are firing.
